June is Adaptive Boating Month
Lt Gov Rutherford_ Secretaries Beatty_ Owings_ Haddaway-Riccio and CRAB Board members on Sandy Point pier.

Governor Larry Hogan proclaimed June as "Adaptive Boating Month" in Maryland.  Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford presented the proclamation to CRAB-Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating  and was joined by MDOD Secretary Carol Beatty, Department of Natural Resources Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio, and MD Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary George Owings at Sandy Point State Park on the Donald E. Backe Accessible Boating Pier.

CRAB  provides sailing experiences and instruction to over 1,000 guests every year from its base of operations at Sandy Point State Park.  Thanks to the numerous CRAB volunteer Skippers, Crew, and Support Staff sailing programs are held every week through October and include Family Sail Sundays, Group Sails, Sailing Camps and Clinics, and Regattas.  Their mission is to bring the thrill, freedom, therapeutic value of sailing to people with disabilities, recovering veterans, and local youth from at-risk neighborhoods. The Maryland Youth Leadership Forum gives high school students the opportunity to learn leadership skills, become knowledgeable about disability culture and history, and explore options for the future.  While not held in person this year, the show (and the learning!) must go on.

MD-YLF is holding their sessions via Zoom.  MDOD Secretary Carol Beatty gave an overview of MDOD and its programs.  Several legislators joined in the Zoom to provide insight on how bills become law, how to advocate, and how to make change happen, despite any setbacks.  Deputy Secretary Christian Miele joined the afternoon panel answering questions and providing more insights on leadership.
