Sidenote: I continue to be very careful to choose only events where there is a reasonable expectation of social distancing and of meeting CDC, Governor and State Fire Marshall guidelines.
Porch Fest Benefits Food Bank
Recently Councilman John Botsford spearheaded the second "Porch Fest" of this year. Bands performed from the front porches of homes from 23rd Ave to 27th Ave. Attendees spread out in front yards and in the street to enjoy the tunes.

Donation boxes were set out at each home on behalf of the North Shore Food Bank. Besides the canned food and pastas collected, over $1,000 was donated.

Acquistapace's Covington Supermarket is matching the entire cash contribution … truly a wonderful corporate citizen.

First Place, Youth Division
Local Covington photographer Olivia Currier recently captured first place, Youth Division, in the LA Wildlife and Fisheries Scenic Rivers Photo contest. Her picture of the cypress lined water's edge of the Tchefunte River is entitled "Peace."

Rash of Car Burglaries
Reminder: Lock those cars!
As Police Chief Culotta says, "rifling through cars is just too easy." Nice subdivisions are target-rich environments … loose change here, a laptop there, sunglasses. Most illegal guns are stolen from unlocked cars. In the last week we have had three guns stolen from unlocked vehicles.
Some of the thieves are local, but sometimes they are from out of state traveling along I-12 getting off at populated exits.
1) Lock your car and do not leave valuables visible on the seat. 2) Cameras, cameras, cameras. The cost of wireless cameras has decreased substantially. With more residents adding cameras, the likelihood of catching the perps is much better. 3) Download Tip 411 Covington PD app. Your text messages, pictures or video will be sent DIRECTLY to the shift supervisor. You can include your contact information or remain anonymous.
