Second Sunday of Advent

Weekly Chimes

Hello Old Donation!

There's a chill in the air, getting me in the Advent-y, Christmas-y spirit. Time to break out the hot cocoa mix and get some wood for the fireplace! But first - it's the first Wednesday of the month, so that does mean Commission meetings. Supper at 6:00, meetings begin at 6:30. All are welcome! If you're not already a part of a Commission, come on by to check one out. I know the Formation Commission could use some more people, and we'd love to have you.

Sunday we will have 5 major events happening!
  • First, we are repeating our John the Baptist "Coat Sunday" - so pull a coat or two from your closet and put it in front of the altar. Last year you brought in too many, so I don't expect 400 again, but it is cold outside.
  • We will distribute the coats again at "Feed My Sheep" food support, which is also this Sunday.
  • St. Nicholas is making his annual stop in the Gathering at 10:30. This is a fun and educational stop to teach about the spiritual origins of "Santa" who began as a bishop in Myra, giving gifts to children to save them from a life of poverty and enslavement. St. Nicholas (who is a professional Santa and a member of ODEC), dresses in traditional Christmas colored bishop's garb and is a treat for our younger children. Bring your kids and neighbor's kids.
  • In the Church, we welcome our new staff member, The Rev. Genevieve Nelson, for her first Sunday with us. Genevieve will be our ordained deacon for the next three years.
  • After the 10:30 services we will have the fifth major event. Groundbreaking for our major building project will happen at 11:45, with prayers, planting a tree, and (coffee hour) reception to follow. We will have building permits by year-end and actual work starts in January.
On Sunday, Bob will be preaching at 8:00, 10:30, and 5:00, and I'll be in the Gathering. I'll also be teaching a class in the Parish Hall on the Season of Advent, so if you're curious what all the fuss is about, join me at 9:30.

Please note, sign ups are happening NOW for our Christmas Pageant! If you have a child in 6th grade or younger who would like to be a part of the pageant, please contact Summer Johnson, and/or sign up at church on Sunday. ALL are welcome! We could also use teen volunteers to help keep things running smoothly.

Can't wait to see you all then,
