In partnership with Frederick Magazine, the 3rd edition of Top 50 Frederick has been published, and we are excited to reveal Frederick County's Top Workplaces along with our 2019 Annual Report.  Read about our economic development successes and get a preview of what we have in store for 2020.

This month we share the news of our newest ROOT tenant, the results of the 2nd Pitch Competition and we get to know Thurmont's Economic Development Manager, Vickie Grinder. Located on the historic National Road, and within the Middletown Historic District, proudly stands Memorial Hall, marking the distinct entrance into the commercial core of Middletown, Maryland.  Constructed as a memorial to local service men who served in WWI, this building served the local community for many years.  Designed by Edward Leber, an architect from York, PA, it encompasses flexible office/meeting spaces on both floors and a theater on the first floor.  Memorial Hall became the local spot to catch concerts, musicals, plays, and movies in the 1920s.  The local high school held dances in the luxurious upstairs room.  Later, the building served as the home for the local Volunteer Fire Company until the mid-1970s.  It also served as the public library, American Legion Post, and as overflow classroom space when the new high school was constructed.

While the theater stage may be gone, the space of the building is very adaptable.  The front rooms are full of natural light, much of its original woodwork, trim, and even some rare lighting fixtures remain intact.

Memorial Hall is located within a National Register Historic District and a Main Street Community, with opportunities to pursue historic tax credits and facade improvement funds through the nonprofit, Main Street Middletown, MD Inc.

Middletown, MD is a desirable community for its convenient location, top-ranked public schools, beautiful rural setting, and abundance.  Memorial Hall is ripe for rehabilitation and looking to once again, serve this community.
