Mid - Week Uplift
June 24, 2020

We have enjoyed providing the Mid-week Uplifts over the past three months to brighten up your week. And now we are moving into summer mode which means shorter working days for Joanne and Beth, our dedicated and hard-working office staff. This will be the last Wednesday uplift for the foreseeable future. Starting next week we will return to one email per week. Please continue to send in your photos, prayer requests and uplifting messages to share with the congregation. They will be included in the Friday emails.

NEW Deadlines for Announcements

Please email announcements to   office@peninsulaunited.com or call 604-531-2979 and we will include them in one of our two weekly emails.

During the months of July and August we will return to sending out one email per week.

Next week Wednesday, Canada Day, is a statutory holiday so the deadline will be Tuesday by 12 noon.

From Our Administration Team
COVID-19 Update
With the province beginning the relaxation of the rules on gathering, the church is beginning to get calls on when we might be reopening. The Council of Peninsula UC has asked a small group to look at the what-how-when-etc. This group is Carol Monaghan from M&P, Anna Paton from Trustees, Lee Chamberlain from Property, Nikkie Ripka from Third Space, and Kathy Matusiak from Congregational Care. At our first meeting on June 8th we began considering all the available documentation, guidelines and procedures to prepare the reopening plans for PUC. This will take time and patience as our main concern is that we will keep our staff, congregation, user groups and wider community safe. Be assured, you will hear more from us.
Thank you and, like Dr Bonnie says, continue to be kind, be calm, be safe.

COVID-19 Update
During the Covid 19 Restrictions, please remember that the buildings are still closed. The only staff working at the office are Janice Young, Beth Henderson and Sheri Kathrein. To ensure the safety of everyone, please respect the protocols posted on the doors and inside the building entrances.
If you have an urgent need to come to the office, please call the office at 604-531-2979 to make arrangements.
These procedures apply to everyone including key holders.
The Affirming Ministry Team presents a Film Discussion:
"Love, Scott"
You choose when to see the film, anytime between now and July 27. Later, on July 27 at 7 pm. you are invited to join us for a Zoom discussion.

"Love Scott" follows the journey of a young gay musician who is attacked in Nova Scotia and paralyzed from the waist down.   What does Scott's experience teach us about how our community of faith can be allies of those in the  LGBTQ+ community?

Join us on Zoom (meeting details to follow).
Psalm 150 NIV
An excerpt from
An Evening Prayer Service  from Shaughnessy Heights United Church, Vancouver, Canada

Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

if you would like specific prayers for yourself or someone  else to be included in the prayers of the people during our worship please send  names to Rev. Janice at janice@peninsulaunited.com or leave a phone message at the office.

Please hold the family of Joyce Scott in your prayers. Joyce died on Sunday, June 21 at Peace Portal Senior's Village. She came to Peninsula United Church from South Arm United Church in Richmond.
Prior to her marriage to Norm Scott, an ordained minister in the UCC, Joyce was a diaconal minister in the United Church. Following the common practice of the time, the United Church revoked Joyce's official status as a diaconal minister upon marriage. Years later, the United Church of Canada apologized for this sexist policy. Joyce remained a committed and faithful member of the United Church her whole life.
Would you like a book to remember Rebecca Irwin?

Rebecca Irwin died 10 days before her 105th birthday.  We couldn't give her a birthday gift but her family has left some gifts for us:  25 books about faith, prayer, the Bible that once belonged to Rebecca.

If you would like a book please contact Dorthe Davison 604-535-2829.
Tierra Nueva Update - Second Food Delivery

Our friends at Fundahmer again sourced basic food supplies and drove as close as they could get to Tierra Nueva.

You remember the road into Tierra Nueva was washed out by fierce storms.
Folks, mainly women you might notice, walked to a community that the truck could reach. They then carried the supplies home.

Please keep our families in your prayers.
Gracias
