A LETTER FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

As we enter into the season of Lent, we often stop to ask, “What is Lent?” According to  Our Sunday Visitor , “Lent is the forty-day liturgical season of fasting, special prayer and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. The name “Lent” is from the Middle English Lenten and Anglo-Saxon Lenten, meaning spring; it’s more primitive ecclesiastical name was “forty days,” tessaracoste in Greek."

When you talk to most Catholics about Lent, they will tell you what they are “giving up” for Lent. As Fr. John spoke about yesterday at Ash Wednesday Mass, “Lent is about fasting, almsgiving, and abstinence.” Giving something up for Lent promotes our spiritual growth in building our relationship with God by doing as He would do. It is a journey.

In support of your own journey, the Dynamic Catholic provides daily reflections focused on the Lenten season. There’s wonderful messages, specifically focused on Lent and who you will become through the process. Visit the website to sign up, or participate as a family for the “Best Lent Ever”. At school, during Lent we focus on “something positive.” We call them forty second reflections, which occur daily, on how we can do something for the Glory of God in our day.

Happy Lent,

Mrs. Drabek, M Ed.
