2021 Summer Nature Camp Registration is Now Open!
Get ready for a wild summer in the great outdoors during Pottawattamie Conservation's Summer Nature Camps. Campers will experience traditional summer camp games, outdoor explorations, & skill building all in Iowa's great outdoors. Camps are offered for learners from Pre-K through 9th grade with each camp teaching age appropriate skills focused on fostering an understanding & appreciation of Iowa's unique environment. 

Camps will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center, Arrowhead Park, & Botna Bend Park in beautiful Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Each park is a 15 to 40 minute drive from the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro Area.

Wildlings Camp - For Students Age 3 to 5 
Our youngest learners will get to know the animals that call southwest Iowa home. With a new animal focus each day campers are sure to learn a lot about the natural world around them. All Wildlings camps are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. & will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center. Cost is $15 per camper, per day & you may register for for as many Wildlings camps as you like.  


Wild Ones - For Students Entering 1st & 2nd Grade (Age 6 to 7)
Our 1st & 2nd grade learners will walk on the wild side during this immersive camp experience packed full of fort building, hiking, outdoor games, nature crafts, & more. Wild Ones is a three day camp & is offered twice, once at Hitchcock Nature Center & once at Arrowhead Park. Camp will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day & campers are welcome to attend both camps. Cost is $75 per camper, per camp. 


Wild Seekers - For Students Entering 3rd & 4th Grade (age 8 to 9)
Students entering 3rd & 4th Grade will discover news skills & explore the wild side of Iowa during this hands-on camp. Campers will enjoy beginning archery lessons, shelter building challenges, hiking, plant & animal identification, & nature crafts. Wild Seekers is a three day camp & is offered twice, once at Hitchcock Nature Center & once at Arrowhead Park. Camp will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day & campers are welcome to attend both camps. Cost is $75 per camper, per camp. 


Wild Wanderers - For Students Entering 5th & 6th Grade (age 10 to 11)
Students entering 5th & 6th grade will continue growing their outdoor survival skills through archery lessons, advanced shelter building, & fire building during this hands-on camp. Wild Wanderers is a three day camp & is offered twice, once at Hitchcock Nature Center & Once at Arrowhead Park. Camp will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day & campers are welcome to attend both camps. Cost is $75 per camper, per camp. 


Into the Wild - For Students Entering 7th, 8th, & 9th Grade (age 12 to 14)
Older students will put their outdoor skills to use during this three day outdoor adventure which includes a canoe trip on the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail & an overnight campout at Botna Bend Park. This three day event begins with a refresher course on canoe skills and water safety at Arrowhead Park from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. & follows up the next day as we set off on our overnight adventure. Cost is $100 per student.

New Pottawattamie Conservation User Fees & Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation Membership Fees Now in Effect
Pottawattamie Conservation 2021 park user fee changes are now in effect at all Pottawattamie Conservation parks. These fee increases are reflective of new & improved amenities and will assist Pottawattamie Conservation & the Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation in continuing our ambitious plans for additional park improvements.

2021 Camping Fees:

RV Electric & Water Sites at all Parks - $25.00 per night
*New for 2021 at Hitchcock Nature Center & coming soon to Arrowhead Park & Botna Bend Park
RV Electric Only Sites at all Parks - $20.00 per night
Tent Camping Sites at all Parks - $10.00 per tent per night
Backcountry Camping Sites at Hitchcock Nature Center - $7.50 per tent per night
Group Tent Camp Site at Hitchcock Nature Center - $50.00 per night for up to 6 tents

2021 Daily Entrance Fees:

Hitchcock Nature Center Daily Entrance Fee - $5.00 per vehicle per day
Botna Bend Park Daily Entrance Fee - $3.00 per vehicle per day
Arrowhead Park Daily Entrance Fee - $3.00 per vehicle per day
Narrows River Park Daily Entrance Fee - $3.00 per vehicle per day

2021 Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation Membership Levels:

Pottawattamie County Resident Annual Membership - $20.00 per year
Out of County Resident Annual Membership - $25.00 per year
  •  One 12-month park entrance permit valid at all Pottawattamie Conservation parks

Join us at Botna Bend Park for Two Terrific Workshops During Building Better Birders
on March 25th
Pottawattamie Conservation is happy to announce the first two programs in our 2021 Building Better Birders programming partnership. Building Better Birders is a programming series designed to improve the bird identification skills of local citizens & promote a greater interest in community science programming. Workshops are presented free of charge & supported by the Resource Enhancement and Protection - Conservation Education Program (REAP-CEP).
 
These informative & interesting workshops are conducted by Kelly McKay (BioEco Research and Monitoring Center), with assistance from Mark Roberts (Clinton County Conservation) and Brian Ritter (Nahant Marsh Education Center). Programs in the Building Better Birders series have been presented throughout the state of Iowa & we are excited to get started with the first of our programs on March 25th at Botna Bend Park.
 
These programs are open to participants of all ages but are designed for learners age 12 & older. There is no fee to attend but advance registration is required as space is limited. Click the links below for more information on our March 25th programs!
Join us at 6:00 p.m. for our first program of the evening, Raptors of Iowa. This presentation will introduce participants to commonly spotted raptor species. Topics to be covered include raptor identification, adaptations, migration & more.
 
Join us at 8:00 p.m. for our second program of the evening, "Owl Prowl Night Hike" & explore the park after dark. Participants on this guided hike will learn about common owl species as they listen for their distinctive calls in the night.

For 14 years Kody Wohlers has been a valuable member of the Pottawattamie Conservation team. Through his work as Natural Resource Technician he has endeavored to support our extensive land stewardship efforts throughout the county. We wish him all the best as he moves on to new adventures.
