MESSAGE FROM HELENA YMCA'S CEO
DAVID OCLANDER
The problem: Since arriving in Helena, I have heard from countless parents that there are not enough growth, development, and enrichment opportunities for youth, especially for youth as they enter Middle School age. Parents have clearly defined the need for a youth and teen development program.

The Answer: The Brand X Method

As many of you know, the one of our major improvement projects over the last three months has been to upgrade all of our exercise equipment. Did you know that beyond providing the best and newest equipment one of the driving factors for this change was so that we could deliver one of the world’s leading youth fitness programs, Brand X. ? Because of a new partnership with St Peter’s HospitalHealth, we have been able to certify four new instructors and bring in dozens of new features that will allow us to become one of the leading fitness providers in the region and The the leader in youth fitness.

December's Employee of the Month
Congratulations to our December employee of the month, Jason Fowler! Jason, Facility Director, has been hard at work with all the facility upgrades the last several months on top of keeping the Helena Family YMCA’s building running at top notch.

Jason is a Helena native and has been part of the Helena Y family since his first job as a lifeguard in the 90’s. When he is not at the Helena Family YMCA he is working on his business, Independent Inspection Service, which involves working under water on drinking water systems in the Northwest.

When he is not working, he enjoys taking advantage of what Montana has to offer from whitewater rafting to fly-fishing and rock crawling in his jeep.

Thank you, Jason, for all you do here at the Helena Family YMCA. We appreciate you!

Helena YMCA looking to reinvent after-school program at Bryant
Last summer, the Helena Family YMCA knew that after five years the 21st Century Grant funding that provided the basis for Bryant Elementary School's after-school program was set to expire. Now the YMCA's CEO David Oclander is looking to reinvent the program.

"It started in May when we learned immediately that 21st Century wouldn't be renewed," Oclander said. "We sat down with (school district superintendent) Tyler Ream and discussed what an after-school program should be."

Facility Updates
The family locker room is near completion and expected to open up at the end of the month. Walls are going up and being painted. We are excited to see the final result!
Men's locker rooms also got a bit of an upgrade. Walls between showers and with new shower curtains have been installed.
Staff ripped out the old carpeting that goes downstairs at the Helena Family YMCA and new flooring will be installed this month!
Intermountain Festival of Trees
The Helena Family YMCA is excited to have a tree at Intermountain's Festival of Trees. : The tree's theme is "Hope for the Future" and reflects how the Y helps children develop hope for their future. Included with the tree is YMCA swag and a family membership for one year!
