The Kent Library Association invites you to attend its Annual Fundraiser & Silent Auction at 104 Spooner Hill Road, South Kent. $75.00 per person. To purchase tickets. RSVP by August 21. Proof of vaccination will be required upon entry.

Tuesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. All About Audiobooks with Peter Lerman. Join KML for a presentation that will cover all aspects of audiobook conception, production and distribution. Peter will begin with who buys and listens to audiobooks, how they listen and why. The many, varied genres of literature which are enjoyed in the medium, plus how audiobooks are produced will be discussed. Peter will also explain the ways to self-publish an audiobook. Business topics touched upon will be the economics of production and distribution as well as industry trends, historic performance and future outlook. Peter is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and The Audio Publishers Association, is an Audible Approved Narrator and a winner of an AudioFile Magazine Earphones Award. He has recorded nearly 100 books. The Future of Climate and Food with Bill McKibben and Anna Lappé. Join us for a conversation with American environmentalist, author, and journalist who has written extensively on the impact of global warming, Bill McKibben and Anna Lappé, American author and educator, known for her work as an expert on food systems and as a sustainable food advocate. Saturday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. Let’s Create a “Kent Collage” together. Come by the Library and make a contribution to our “Kent Collage”! We will have a huge banner with the letters “K-E-N-T” spelled out, and we invite you to fill in the letters with pictures, photos, or words, of what makes Kent special to you! Tuesday, September 14 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fall Book Discussion Series: Make It New - 100 Year Anniversary, Part 1. After the devastation of The Great War, European artists felt they could not go on representing life as before. The refrain was “make it new” and it did not take long. By 1922 two radically new works appeared in print that were to have long-term influence: James Joyce’s Ulysses and T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land. Readers in Kent, CT, however, were still looking backwards; for the most part they were reading nineteenth century works. But American writers were also looking for new ways of narrating stories. The list for fall 2021 samples what was going on from 1920 to 1925, both in the United States and abroad, though maybe not in the town of Kent. This month's book is Main Street 1920 by Sinclair Lewis. Betty Krasne, Ph.D., a writer and retired professor of literature who lives in Kent, leads the discussions. On Zoom. Wednesday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. The Home Buying Experience: Searching for Your Forever Home. Home Buying is an exciting step, but where do you begin? How do you buy the right home for you? For those interested in learning about the steps to purchasing a home. Compass Property Inspections will have licensed professionals talk about the two major aspects of home buying: real estate and home inspection. Audience members will be guided through the process of home buying to find and ensure the safety of a new home. Junior Room. This program is free and open to the public. Please register.

Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. Celebrate our Centennial, with the 1960’s as our spotlight decade this month: The Moon Landing. Come pay tribute to this historic decade with our July 20, 1969 themed moon landing party! We will watch historic footage as well as clips from today’s space program, enjoy space themed snacks, make mini rockets, and imagine being astronauts. All ages are welcome to participate. Saturday, September 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Costume Swap and Parent’s Committee Kick-Off Party. Have some costumes that no longer fit? Looking for that special character? The swap includes both adult and children sized costumes. Whether you are looking for clothes for dress up, or getting an early start on Halloween, come by for an evening costume swap! Adult refreshments will be served. The garden has produced so many tomatoes, a variety of peppers (those jalapenos had quite a kick!), a surprising number of potatoes, broccoli, cucumbers, lettuce, kale and some herbs! The basil has been especially well received.

There are still more cucumbers, peppers, and greens to come (hopefully!), and a single melon!

We have had a great group of kids helping with watering, mowing, weeding, harvesting, and eating!
