Starting this spring, we will embark on a multi-year process to develop a comprehensive Student Assignment Plan in order to modernize our district structure and address historic inequities that continue to most significantly impact students of color. This may include changes to school attendance areas, reconsideration of a more equitable selection process for magnet schools and programs, and establishing a local school in the Fifth Ward. As part of this process, we are forming a Student Assignment Advisory Committee (SAAC) comprised of a diverse team of D65 staff, parents/caregivers, community members, and consulting experts, to review District 65’s Student Assignment system. Those selected to be committee members will have a number of actionable items to keep them busy! These include using an interactive student assignments tool to develop guiding principles for student assignment and using data from the forthcoming masters facilities plan, community surveys, and town halls to inform recommendations to the School Board.
The SAAC application is open from now through March 19 and SAAC members will be announced to the community after spring break. Complete the SAAC Application (available in English and Spanish) today!
