Friday is a Flexible FLT Friday
Dear Parents/Guardians,

In order to provide students with every possible opportunity for students to be successful in all classes, we are offering a series of flexible days with a modified class schedule on October 10, January 17, March 27, and at least one day at the end of the year. On these days, we will run a series of extended Focused Learning Time (FLT) periods.

FLT is typically offered as part of our regular schedule each day and provides an opportunity for students to engage in personalized intervention, extension, and enrichment. Please understand that attendance at these extended FLT sessions is mandatory for all students who have been assigned by a teacher to attend. These sessions will NOT conflict with SST or NECC. Students in those programs are expected to attend those programs as usual.

Students who are not assigned to any FLT sessions by a teacher will not be required to attend these extended focused learning opportunities. Please be aware, however, that bus transportation will only be available at the end of the regular school day at 2:10PM.

Your child will be notified by their teacher(s) on the day before at the latest if they will be required to stay for any and all of the extended FLT sessions on a flexible day. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s grades, please contact your child’s teacher(s) by email (preferable) or by phone at (603) 642-3341.

The schedule for these days will be as follows:

Senior Spotlight: Bryant Szot
An Article by Staff Member Dee Hambucken
Bryant Szot has definitely grown as a student here at SRHS. While he is still reserved, he has made great strides to come out of his shell and actively participate in French class over the past three and a half years. It’s a pleasure to see his quick smile, hear his “bonjour,” and get to know him more through his writing assessments. Bryant may not seek the limelight, but that’s because he is a keen observer! Two colleagues who were quick to add their accolades are:

Mr. White: I have had the pleasure of having Bryant, in both, advisory and wellness class. In class, Bryant enjoys being in class, and participating with his peers in the day's activity. In advisory, Bryant was able to open up and talk about his hobbies, which include bowling and exercising. We will miss Bryant's sense of humor and willingness to step outside his comfort zone here at Sanborn, but know that Bryant will accomplish great things in his adult life.

Mr. Bradd: I have been working with Bryant for probably 8 or 9 years now. He plays percussion in the band, is a member of our Tri-M Music Honor Society, and is always a part of any group that I need volunteers for. Whether it be for volunteer players to do things for the towns of Kingston or Newton, play in Holiday ensembles, or kids to schlep equipment from point A to B, Bryant, without complaint, or any syllables for that matter, is one of the first to do it. He has found a home here in the Music Department and I will personally miss his soft spoken but consistent and hard working presence.

We all wish you the best, Bryant, and we cannot wait to see what you accomplish!
Senior Spotlight: Brooke Arsenault
An Article by Staff Member Jeff Adams
I first met Brooke in my gaming class and found that she was a very likable young woman. She was funny, outgoing, loved to talk and was not afraid to voice her concerns, questions and comments. She was a freshman but did not act like the normal quiet freshman; she was very social and was not afraid to talk to the other members in the class. While enrolled in my gaming class she was an active member in the class and was able to have a conversation on the assignment and any other topics during class. Tech Ed teacher Mr. Jack Kelly is quoted as saying “Brooke is a country girl who is dependable and reliable”.  Since that gaming class I have seen Brooke grow into respectful, bubbly, energetic, loud and open minded young woman.  English teacher Bari Boisvert is quoted in saying “In my English classes she has made me laugh, but also worked hard”.  Mrs. Boisvert also says “I have known Brooke since she was a toddler (sorry Brooke) and I can definitely say that I’ve seen her grow to be a smart, funny and respectful young woman”.

When you ask people around the school to describe Brooke, I think I would have to agree that she is a modern day country girl, who loves animals, country music and the outdoors. Brooke is currently enrolled in the Animal and Plant Science course at Seacoast School of Technology, where she loves working with the animals and is increasing her already vast knowledge of animals. Brooke loves animals so much that Mrs. Boisvert says “Brooke is one of the few people that I have trusted with her fur kids and is honest, reliable and a great human”. After graduation from Sanborn, Brooke is looking into attending the University of New Hampshire or Great Bay Community College where she can follow a career in Equine Management. Brooke has a dream job in mind to work with horses. It will not be the same seeing Brooke in her country girl attire at Sanborn. Mr. Kelly summed it up by saying “I will miss Brooke next year, but she has set herself up for success in the future”. Good luck Brooke, have fun working with horses not humans.
Senior Spotlight: Steven Zaluk
An Article by Staff Member Brittany Lombardo
My first day at Sanborn was a bit unusual since my first day wasn’t in August like the rest of the class of 2020, but in October just 4 years ago. Steven Zaluk, a freshman, was in my very first class that I introduced myself to that day. Steven has a way of making himself known, and I knew his sarcasm and quick wit was going to make for a great year!

Steven quickly became a leader in our 3rd period Global Studies class and he often wore that title whether he liked it or not. He excelled in both the content and his craftiness in my classroom. He often came to me asking why I pushed him so hard and challenged him more than others, and he never liked what I had to say. It was simply because I knew he was capable of so much more, he knew it too. Like any freshman, Steven was figuring out who he was and sometimes it didn’t always work out in his favor. But he always challenged others and his own thinking. It was truly an honor to see him evolve over those short 8 months.

As he has moved through high school, I have seen him grow and work through figuring out where he fits and where his strengths lie. Now I see Steven in the halls itching to finish his senior and move onto the next big thing. Since his freshman year, he has taken the initiative to complete two VLACS courses on his own time, no easy feat. He is on track to graduate as a NH Scholar and is currently working in software development as an intern. He hopes to study Cyber Security in college, I’m excited to see what program he chooses to attend! Best of luck Steven, I can’t wait to see what you do next!

Parents of Juniors: We Need Your Consent for April's SAT Test!
All grade 11 students will take the SAT during the school day on April 14th. Since this is the state's accountability test, there is no testing fee. Students will be able to send their scores for free to 4 schools from this test.

With this test, the College Board will also offer an optional program called 'Student Search Service." Parents who want their child to be included in this program must give consent as NH state law prevents schools from allowing students to send their personal information without parental permission. Please be aware that this is a for-profit service that College Board provides. If you give consent, your child's information may be sold to colleges, universities, and other scholarship organizations. In return, you and your child will receive information on opportunities that may be of interest to you and your child.

Please click on the button below to complete the form granting, or not granting, consent for the optional component. Every parent must respond to the school with a "yes" or "no".

Youth in Action and SoROCK Art Gala
On January 16th, Sanborn Youth in Action and SoROCK are partnering to host a youth lead art gala at Sanborn Regional High School. It is a night celebrating community, compassion, and strength in hopes of increasing prevention and decreasing the stigma of mental illness. We recognize that art can be a powerful tool to start meaningful conversation. The students of Youth in Action hope that this event will be a way to bring awareness to mental illness and the importance of ending the stigma. We hope that you will consider creating a piece of art that answers the question "What does mental health look like to you?" (for younger students- "What do feelings look like to you?") with a focus on the themes of hope, recovery, community, or support. This event is open to the community and all ages- with prize/judging categories of elementary, middle school, high school and adults. If you are interested in submitting original work please register using the button below:
Join the PTO!
The mission of the Sanborn Regional High School Parent Teacher Organization is to enhance and support the Sanborn Regional High School learning community of students, staff, and families of Fremont, Kingston, and Newton.

This is accomplished through the following endeavors: Community Outreach, Teacher Involvement, Educational Programs, Civic Cooperation, Volunteer Programs, and Fundraising.

When we all help a little it is amazing how much we accomplish as an organization.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 15th at 6pm in the Conference Room (Room 102) at the school. We normally meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6pm.

If you have any questions or information you would like to share with our organization, please contact Barbara Munroe, PTO President, at bemunroe1@gmail.com.
SRHS PTO Launches its Back to School "Un-Fundraiser"
We are asking for your support for our 2019 back to school Un-Fundraiser. Simply put, an Un-Fundraiser is a way to donate money without having to sell or buy anything. Isn’t that the best?? 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the SRHS PTO, and then it goes right to our kids, which is the best place to put it! Where does this money go you might ask?

Each year, our PTO supports the following kinds of activities:

• Starter cash for the in-coming freshmen student activities account
• Classroom grants, up to $250 per teacher, to fund innovative programming
• Scholarships to Sanborn Seniors
• Funds to support class activities such as the Senior Cruise in Boston.
• Senior Success Day
• Teachers’ meals for the open houses & Teacher Appreciation Week
• Strategies for College Presentation for parents
We hope you were able to appreciate the sarcasm and humor in this form of request and we thank you for your time and monetary donation.

Plaistow YMCA Plans Earth Day Clean Up at Tricklin' Falls
An Update From Southern Rockingham Coalition for Youth (SoROCK)
SoRock has been very busy working on our sustainability goals! We recently applied for a state grant and are awaiting that award announcement (fingers crossed!). Receiving that grant would sustain our coordinator position (me) for the remainder of the school year. We have also been taking to the selectmen and hoping to ask the towns we serve to consider donating one dollar per person to SoRock for prevention. We are currently looking for registered votors to sign warrant article petitions. If you are interested in signing the petition for your town please reach out and we will set up a time to meet.
On 11/21, with funding assistance from D.A.D, our Youth In Action group participated in a Peer Leadership Summit at the Austin 17 House, with students from both Timberlane and Pinkerton, facilitated by NH Teen Institute. This was a great opportunity for students to learn skills for helping/getting help for their peers in sensitive subject areas such as substance use, mental health and more.
They also continue to work on their “Healing Through The Arts” Art show scheduled to take place on 1/16. The students hope that this ALL AGES art show will be a way to bring awareness to mental health and substance use issues and the importance of ending the stigma. We hope that you will consider creating a piece of art that answers the question "What does mental health look like to you?" with a focus on the themes of hope, recovery, community, or support. Artists sign up here bit.ly/Healingthroughthearts . All proceeds from the art show will go directly to prevention efforts in the communities we serve.

SoRock welcomes your involvement! If you would like to help or attend our next meeting please email sorocknhcc@gmail.com for more information.
An Important Message From School Administrators:
PTO Clothing & Shoe Donation Bins
When you drop your unwanted clothing and shoes off in these bins, the SRHS PTO gets paid based on the weight of the clothing! This is a really easy way to help our school. All PTO proceeds go directly back to programming and scholarships that directly benefit our students.  NOTE: Shoes must go in a separate bin.

Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
