Dear Magnificat Community,

I hope this Advent season is filled with peace, comfort, and hope for you and your loved ones. Here at Magnificat, the blessing for which we are most grateful is that we have been able to safely engage our students both in person and via livestream for the entire semester thus far. We are so fortunate that both technology and new safety protocols have made it possible for us to holistically support our students as they continue to learn, lead, and serve amidst the challenges of a pandemic. Thank you for everything you have done to encourage our students and to help us keep both the spirit and the Mission of Magnificat alive during these times.

Last week, we celebrated the opening of our 18th Annual Humble Hands season with a virtual prayer service that included student reflections along with more information about the partner organizations that will benefit from this year’s donations. See below for more information about how you can join our Humble Hands efforts this year!

As we prepare for the joyful mystery of the Christmas season, I ask that you continue to pray for our alumnae, parents, and relatives who are healthcare and front line workers; our students and their families; our faculty and staff; and each person in our community in need of prayers during the holiday season.

Again, please know of my deep gratitude for all you do to support the Magnificat Community. I pray that you and your loved ones have a blessed and safe Christmas and New Year.

God Who Accompanies Us -- 
Thank you for journeying with us this Advent season.
Day by day, 
we seek to draw closer to You 
and to all whom You love.  
In quiet and busy moments, 
in times of stress and relaxation,
in experiences of faith and fear,
You are near. 
May we trust in your loving and abiding presence, 
embracing, guiding, and sustaining us 
in this holy season.

18th ANNUAL HUMBLE HANDS SEASON
Each year, the Magnificat Community comes together during the Advent season to support local and national organizations that have had a special connection to Magnificat. While we are limited to monetary donations this year due to the pandemic, moving Humble Hands to a virtual platform enables us to invite all members of the community to participate!

CELEBRATING BLACK CATHOLIC HISTORY MONTH
During Black Catholic History Month, senior theology classes had a "Saint Spotlight" assignment to learn more about five prominent Black Catholics who have influenced and contributed to the beauty of Catholicism. They met Josephine Bahkita, Mother Mary Lange, St. Martin de Porres along with Sr. Thea Bowman and Fr. Augustus Tolton, both of whom are featured in the Agape Mural by Chloe Becker '20, which resides in the lobby of Magnificat's Lourdes Chapel. Students were also given the opportunity to write a prayer for racial justice with the focus on reconciliation, conversion, and healing.

God, help me to see the privilege that I have been granted, help me to recognize and celebrate the differences of others. Teach me to be like Josephine Bakhita who instead of hardening her heart, opens it. Teach me to be like Mother Mary Lange who uses her faith to bring people together. Teach me to be like Sister Thea and allow me to trust the journey that life is taking me on. Teach me to be like Father Tolton, who was able to lead and acknowledge his community. Teach me to be like
St. Martin, who worked hard despite difficult circumstances. Allow me to learn from and be more like these saints so that in my own life I can be a strong, persistent leader who can work toward justice.
