Check out the event calendar offering a variety of opportunities- preschool reading times, teen programs, adult reading groups and craft classes. This newsletter is a wonderful opportunity to promote the huge database of information available through the www.slolibrary.org
website under the Reference/Database tab. This database is organized alphabetically and features 25 resources, from Auto Repair Resources, Ancestry, DMV practice driving tests, an online citizen prep course to worldwide travel information. The Global Road Warrior database tab includes practical information for world travelers, providing cultural, economic and technical data for 175 countries. Another related database is Pronunciator Language Lab that helps users learn any of 80 languages, free apps, downloadable audio lessons, special recognition, etc... Check out these valuable resources online using your library card or visit Atascadero Library where the friendly staff can assist you with any questions.

LIBRARY ART NEWS
Drawn to the Central Coast

December 2, and continuing until the end of February, the Atascadero Library will host an exhibit that features local artists Tracy Paz and Drew Mayerson.
Both artists moved from other parts of California to the Central Coast. Paz has exhibited her work at the L.A. County Arboretum in Arcadia and at the Huntington; she has received multiple awards from the Cactus and Succulent Society of America.
Mayerson is also an award-winning artist
and a member of Oil Painters of America. He credits his work as a geologist with helping him to see "both the landscape and the geologic events that created it."
All are invited to meet the artists
at a reception at 5 p.m.
on Thursday, December 5.
Light refreshments will be served.

ATASCADERO'S DANCING WITH OUR STARS
THE MAGIC CONTINUES!

Friends of the Atascadero Library
Atascadero's Dancing with Our Stars 2020 team of community star dancers and choreographers is actively learning dance routines, securing sponsors and fundraising for the non-profit organizations that are part of the show. The team of dancers participated in the annual Colony Days parade and won the "Judges" award, translating to the Judge's favorite of the 70 parade entries. The following week this dynamic group of dancers participated in the annual Paso Robles Pioneer Days parade and won the coveted "Sweepstakes" award of 110 parade entries! The parade entry featured a decorated 1945 vintage jeep and trailer owned and driven by veteran dancer Barry Lewis, followed by our dancers in elaborate costumes representing their non-profit organizations. They danced to music of popular TV theme songs of the past. Thank you, Christina Troxel and David May, for your time and effort decorating Barry's jeep and trailer for the parade. Special thanks to Charlie Bradley for transporting the parade items to the venues for assembly. The collaboration of efforts was nothing short of amazing and a ton of fun too!

Survey Says...

Sincere thanks to each of you that completed the "Author in the Spotlight: An Evening With Lisa See Follow Up Survey" that was emailed after the October event. Over 75% competed the survey; that is an absolutely unbelievably high completion rate for a survey! Based on the 94% of respondents that indicated they were "very satisfied" with the event, guesses are that high satisfaction rate contributed to the stellar Survey completion rate.
If you do not receive the Friends of the Atascadero Library (FOAL) Newsletter and asked to receive it, your email has added your email to the distribution list. Hopefully you are reading this article in your first edition of the Newsletter!
Most (72%) of those that responded are NOT members of the FOAL. For those that requested information on joining the Friends of the Atascadero Library, you can find it on the FOAL website or you can pick up/drop off membership forms at the Atascadero Library and at the
Alice Rew Bookstore
at the Library.

ALICE'S BOOKSTORE NEWS

Is it time for a good book, comfy chair and a warm drink?
Or a movie, help with a DIY project or a classic book like Swiss Family Robinson? Well, I know just the place for you to find all of these and more...Alice's Bookstore!
Behind the scenes our volunteers have been busy sorting donations, stocking shelves and readying the store for you and holiday shoppers. We've refreshed the cookbooks, added a great selection of Roadside Americana books, movies, kids/teen books, puzzles and stocking stuffers. Don't forget our Book Bag specials (10 items of your choice + a book bag for $10.00), maybe an apron with our brand for your cooks/DIYers/ gardeners, bookstore gift certificates, or memberships in Friends of the Library group!
Speaking of volunteers, we definitely have the best group going and 4 new folks have joined the ranks and all reports indicate they are having a great time meeting new friends and sending books home with you. These new helpers also mean that we are able to open the store several more hours each week. It's a win-win for everyone.
Another win? An amazing and huge thank you for all of our customers in 2019. With your help we have raised nearly $11,500 for our Library! What great news for our community and all who love and use our Library.

LIBRARIAN'S MESSAGE

 Happy Holidays from the Atascadero Library Staff!
This photo was taken for an article in the Atascadero News celebrating Atascadero Library's 100-year anniversary in October 2019. We were pleasantly surprised to recently receive a Proclamation from the City of Atascadero. You can see that proclamation on display in the library.
Every month we are reaching out and hosting up to 30 events! Staff have been busy reaching out to various organizations and schools to build relationships and combine efforts to provide library services in new ways. Joey and Marion are part of a small team of staff that visit the County Jail monthly to provide reading material and book discussion. Sally is working with our Library Coordinators to get library cards into the hands of all school students.
We hope you will join us for many of our upcoming in-house events, many of which are listed below, more can be found on the online calendar. Special features include a Prince & Princess Tea (ages 5-12), a Family Maker Day, and a visit from the Turtle and Tortoise Rescue of Arroyo Grande. A few of our monthly events include a Family movie every 1st Saturday, two adult book discussion groups a month, and Teen Maker days every Friday afternoon.
We hope to see you at the library soon!
