Research Assistant Position

Research Assistant/Lab Manager

Psychology

Penn State

The Cognitive Aging and Neuroimaging (CAN) Lab in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State is hiring a full-time Research Assistant/Lab Manager to assist in their investigation of the effects of aging on episodic memory using both behavioral and neuroimaging (fMRI) methods.

An emphasis in the lab is placed on understanding the cognitive and neural processes underlying false memories and associative memories. With respect to cognitive aging, our research examines neural markers of age-related cognitive decline, as well as mechanisms supporting neural compensation. Regarding neuroimaging, we utilize univariate, multivariate (e.g., pattern classification, representational similarity analyses), functional connectivity, and structural analytical approaches in our investigation of encoding and retrieval processes underlying memory performance. Information about all of our research including ongoing projects can be found on our lab website, at https://canlab.la.psu.edu/.

The lab manager will be responsible for day-to-day management tasks of lab activities including scheduling and recruiting participants, training and supervising undergraduate research assistants, creating experimental and laboratory protocols and procedures, as well as data collection and analysis. Opportunity for authorship on projects is also available. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, or related fields, as well as excellent interpersonal skills is preferred. Experience with programming skills (e.g., MATLAB; R; Python), and analysis of fMRI data is desirable.

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an option for a second-year renewal. To apply for this job please upload a CV, cover letter, and the names/contact information of 3 professional references. All inquiries about the position can be sent to Dr. Nancy Dennis, Department of Psychology at nad12@psu.edu. Penn State is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.

Research Assistant Position

Research Assistantship at UC Berkeley

Cognitive Neuroscience

Dept of Psychology & Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute

University of California at Berkeley

The Building Blocks of Cognition Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley, headed by Professor Silvia Bunge, studies the cognitive and neural processes that support reasoning, memory, and goal-directed behavior in humans. To investigate these phenomena, the lab leverages behavioral, brain imaging, and eyetracking methods. This job opening is for a full-time research assistant to work on an National Science Foundation-funded project titled "How does the brain represent abstract concepts?" This study involves multivariate fMRI in healthy young adults, individual differences analyses, and computational modeling. The project will be carried out in collaboration with David Kraemer at Dartmouth College, Keith Holyoak and Hongjing Lu, a postdoctoral fellow, and a graduate student.

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for recruiting participants, collecting behavioral and brain imaging data, assisting with data analysis and data sharing, coordinating with trainees at the other sites, and carrying out general lab tasks. A strong background in STEM and extensive laboratory experience are required. Experience conducting MRI scans and managing the data is highly preferred; experience with fMRI data analysis would be ideal. We are looking for equity-minded applicants who represent the full diversity of California and who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds present in our community.
