"Develop Christ-centered students who aspire to excellence
and impact their communities for Him."
JANUARY 2020
"Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
(1 Thessalonians 5:16–18)
A Message from Our Board Chair, Fred Laughlin
The first component of our mission statement is to  develop Christ-centered students.  In that context, we strive to instill in our students a knowledge of the Gospel, an appreciation for the saving work of Jesus Christ, and a dedication of service to Him. On that foundation, we further seek to:
  • instill in our students the love of learning;
  • equip them with the academic and life tools needed to succeed; and
  • inspire them to excellence as they apply those tools.

As we celebrate Lutheran Schools Week and NVCA Week this month, we are grateful to be part of a community that promotes academic, social, physical, and spiritual growth in a Christ-centered culture.
Celebrate with Us!
Lutheran Schools Week
Lutheran Schools Week (January 27–31) provides the opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God's work and all His associated blessings within the NVCA school community. We are very grateful to have the freedom to teach and apply the Word of God along with academics at NVCA. It is the underlying focus in all that we do.

The week's celebrations will include an all-school chapel at 8:45 am on Wednesday, January 29, to recognize Pastor Appreciation Day. A special pastor breakfast will follow at 9:15 am in the cafeteria. All students and staff will come together to worship and thank God for everything He is doing at NVCA and in the lives of our precious students.

"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."
(Deuteronomy 6:6–8)
Celebrate NVCA
& Hoopcoming
During the week of January 27–31, many fun activities will take place around campus. Students will enjoy dress-up days, and Friday shirts, past and present, will be displayed all around campus commemorating our journey.

Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the NVCA's Got Talent Show at 7:00 pm on Thursday. We'll close out the week's celebrations with the Hoopcoming Pep Rally and basketball games on Friday. The girls will play at 5:30 pm and the boys at 7:00 pm.

We are blessed to have students who are very proud of their school.

As we begin the second half of the school year, we look forward to all the amazing things God will do!

Academics
Developing Christ-Centered Students
NVCA teachers from preschool through high school bear witness to the teachings of the Lord through God’s Word and its importance in our academic structure. In fact, elementary teachers teach Bible as a subject each day in their own classroom. The middle school and high school have their own theology classes. Available courses include:
  • 6th Grade—the Bible in general
  • 7th Grade—the Book of Acts
  • 8th Grade—Introduction to Christianity and Jesus: According to the Gospels
  • 9th & 10th Grade—New and Old Testament Survey
  • 11th & 12th Grade—Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics, Introduction to World Religions, Christian World View, and Theology of CS Lewis. Additionally, a select group of 11th and 12th grade students have the opportunity to study Discipleship and Leadership.

NVCA has five theology teachers: Geoff House, Anna Zimmer, Erica Rice, Phil Adams, and Glen Bagley. It is our desire that all students come to know that God reaches out to man to bring him back to a right relationship. It is the story of redemption that we desire every student to hold dear in their hearts.

Our Bible classes present God’s Word as the authoritative and inspired Word by God Himself. Within those curricular parameters, students learn about the people, places, events, and life lessons that make the Bible the most relevant, challenging, interesting, and significant document ever written.

NVCA teachers work daily to instill in students a balance of that interest together with their academics so that they may go forth and impact their communities for Christ.
