Knauss Fellowship

The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources.
The Fellowship matches highly qualified graduate students with hosts in the legislative and executive branches of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one-year paid fellowship.

Albert Schweitzer Fellowship
|
Columbus-Athens Schweitzer Fellows are graduate or professional students whose fields of study or personal interests are relevant to the program’s mission. Fellows receive a stipend of $3,000 to carry out an April-to-April community service project of at least 200 service hours, of which at least 100 hours involve direct client contact. Fellows partner with an existing community agency in the Columbus or Athens area and have both an academic and a community-based mentor. Fellows attend an orientation and monthly meetings as well as participate in reflective leadership development programming. No academic credit is earned.
Applications are due in February.

NIP is a center unique college internship program (formerly known as LERCIP) conducted at the NASA Glenn Research Center. The program provides a 10-week paid summer internship for students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and non-STEM majors that lend support to the NASA mission, and a 16-week fall and spring STEM-only internship opportunity. Students spend their tenure learning and working at the NASA Glenn Research Center facilities under the guidance of a mentor while engaging in authentic NASA-related, mission-based R&D and career-related activities. The educational component allows students to attend and participate in a variety of planned activities such as Conference Day, Career Showcase and a Student Poster Session. The program provides hands-on experiences that challenge, inspire, and promote practical application, complementing and expanding upon students’ theoretical education.

FABE 5350: Sustainable Land and Water Systems
|
Prerequisites
Graduate student or senior UG with at least one course in one of the following or similar subject areas; ecology, biology, engineering, geology, human behavior, economics and public health.
Description
An interdisciplinary analysis of interactions of land and water systems, and how upstream management and behavior impacts downstream aquatic systems. A primary focus will be the analysis, comparison and solutions related to eutrophication of coastal systems. This will be supported with research in related disciplines, field experiences, and exploration of stakeholder viewpoints and behaviors. Students will demonstrate their integrated knowledge by preparing an interdisciplinary proposal addressing coastal eutrophication.

CFAES Annual Poster Competition – Call for posters!
|
Each year, the research done by our students and research scientists is put on display at the CFAES Annual Research Conference Poster Competition. The Poster Competition is open to any currently enrolled or recently graduated (Spring 2019 or later) graduate students, including M.S., Ph.D., and professional students; and select others working on a CFAES supported project. Entrants may present only posters on original research they have conducted while at The Ohio State University.
Posters for the competition must be submitted online as a PDF and then printed and displayed at the CFAES Annual Research Conference. Participants are expected to show their posters from approximately 10-11:30am at the Annual Research Conference April 21, 2020. This portion of the competition will constitute 15% of the total poster score and additionally provide a great opportunity for students to gain experience discussing their research with peers.
All posters will undergo a review process during which they will be scored.
Evaluations will be based on the abstract, poster content, design, and the poster presentation according to a rubric developed by the Conference Committee, which can be found at

. Four separate competitions will be held for Master’s students, Doctoral students, Post-docs, and Research Assistants/ Associates/ Scientists. Full guidelines can be found

First, second, and third place winners in each competition will receive cash awards of $500, $300 and $150, respectively. Winners will be announced at the CFAES Annual Research Conference on April 21, 2020.
The deadline to submit a poster will be
5:00pm on Monday, March 9, 2020.

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP

The Office of International Affairs, the Office of Research, the Graduate School, the Office of Student Academic Success and the Global Gateways are sponsoring a grant competition with separate tracks for
faculty
,
graduate students
and
undergraduate students
. Proposals are sought for a wide range of research and scholarship projects, which include but are not limited to: promoting active international research collaborations, addressing global issues in a regional context, connecting discipline-specific research to the implementation of projects and programs in diverse geopolitical and cultural settings, and exploring the languages, cultures, arts, social sciences and area studies. Grants awarded to faculty will be up to $6,000; grants awarded to students will be up to $5,000.
