Call for Artists! Sculpture Exhibition in Newport Beach Civic Center Park - Phase V - Deadline January 15th
|
The City of Newport Beach (City) is pleased to announce a call for entries for Phase V of its ongoing Invitational Sculpture Exhibition to further activate the splendor of the City's Civic Center Park. Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2020. There is no fee to submit. Selected artists receive an honorarium of up to $6,000 for the two-year loan of their work for the exhibition. Arts Orange County is proud to be the contractor managing the selection and installation process.

Call for Artists - 9th Annual Día del Niño - Deadline January 31
|
The 9th OC Dia del Niño Festival returns to the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 from 10am-5pm. This special free family festival features two full days of live music, dance, circus workshops, engaging children's art activities, community resource booths. Visual and performing artists interested in offering hands-on workshops in all media and performing artists and ensembles (professional, community and student) wishing to perform on the Dia del Niño stage are invited to submit their applications online here. All artists are compensated. There is no fee to submit an application. Deadline for applications is January 31.

Learn About Impact of New CA Labor Law on December 11
|
The state has enacted a law (AB 5) that has a profound impact upon how we employ people--severely limiting the use of "independent contractors." We invite ArtsOC member organizations Board and Staff to attend this free presentation by a labor attorney to learn how the new law affects your organization and a presentation by our state arts advocates leader on what is being done to modify the law. On Wednesday, December 11, 3 pm, Arts Orange County & Californians for the Arts will present:
"The ABCs of AB 5: Can Anyone Be an Independent Contractor in California Anymore?," a presentation by Michael Olsen, Labor & Employment Attorney at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. It will cover what you need to know about the new California labor law about the hiring of independent contractors (including artists).
"AB 5: What Arts Advocates Are Doing to Mitigate the Impact," a presentation by Julie Baker, Executive Director of California Arts Advocates (CAA) & Californians for the Arts (CFTA). It will cover CAA's success in modifying the bill and its pursuit of further modifications.

Tram Le Appointed to John Wayne Airport Arts Commission
|
Tram Le, Arts & Culture Specialist at the City of Santa Ana, has been appointed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors to serve on the
John Wayne Airport Arts Commission, which oversees a
program of permanent art installations, temporary art exhibitions and performances at the terminal. She was selected to represent the First District by Supervisor Andrew Do, and succeeds Thuy Vo Dang.

Costa Mesa City Council Will Review Arts & Culture Master Plan on December 17
|
The Costa Mesa City Council will review the
Arts & Culture Master Plan developed from community input by consultant Arts Orange County at its Thursday, December 17, 6 pm meeting at City Hall. The process began in 2017 and included nearly 80 stakeholder interviews, 7 community forums, and an online survey that received over 1,000 responses. The meeting is open to the public and arts concerned citizens are encouraged to attend.

California State Library Grant Program Open to Submissions
|
Grants of up to $100,000 for artistic and educational projects. This program's central purpose and original intent is to ensure that the events surrounding the exclusion, forced removal, and internment of civilians and permanent resident aliens of Japanese ancestry during World War II will be remembered and that the causes and circumstance of these and other similar civil-liberty violations may be illuminated and understood.
