LAST OPPORTUNITY - Order Your
2021 - 2022 Yearbook!
As we get closer to the end of the school year you are also running out of time to order your yearbooks. Don't forget to order your yearbook here.

The books are $100 and can be ordered online until May 1. There are a limited number of yearbooks available and we cannot guarantee they will last, so make sure to get yours before they are sold out. If we have any books leftover after May 1, they will be available for sale in person on campus for $120 after they arrive in late May.

The theme of this year's book is "Better Together," and we certainly are! Go Panthers!

Take a look at the fun video below produced by our 2021-2022 Yearbook.
English Department Field Trip
The English department went on an inaugural field trip to the John Steinbeck house and center in Salinas, CA. There were 9 students, Craig Mellon, SJM's Transportation Supervisor, and Carlie Frye, English and Religious Studies Instructor who participated in the field trip. They all traveled by bus for this fun day trip, learning about Steinbeck’s life and connecting the geography to novels they have read in class, such as East of Eden. They even dined in his home! It was a lot of fun and they hope to make it an annual tradition.
Two SJM students Move Ahead in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad Competition

Nearly 16,000 U.S. students participate in Local Chemistry Olympiad competitions. Over 70% of Local Sections use the Local Section Exam prepared by the ACS Chemistry Olympiad Examination Task Force. Exams are administered annually in March and students are nominated for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competition based on their performance and eligibility.

Two of our SJM students recently competed in the Local Chemistry Olympiad and earned incredible results. Vincenzo Smith placed 3rd & Rinzen Lim placed 4th. Both qualified for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competition which takes place later this April 2022.
Congratulations to Charlotte Burks!
Charlotte Burks was named the Runner-Up in California State’s Poetry Out Loud writing competition, Poetry Ourselves. Poetry Ourselves is a competition for original work by Poetry Out Loud county champions. Students are invited to submit an original written poem of no more than 50 lines, to be judged anonymously by a guest poet. To read more about the competition and to read Charlotte's poem please visit this site.
Congratulations to Sophomore, Mary-Ellison Hage!
Mary recently participated in IPOPLA along with 499 other talented teenagers from around the world. She spent a week at this event and ended up winning Teen Actress of the Year! It is the best title and the biggest honor a performer could receive at this event. All the industry professionals were amazed by her personality and her talent! Mary-Ellison Hage will be playing a lead role in a movie scheduled to be filmed in Seattle in August 2022.
Successful Participation of SJM's FFA Chapter 604 in the California FFA Leadership Conference
The 2022 California FFA Leadership Conference took place last month in Sacramento, California.

Our SJM students that participated had the opportunity to meet the 2022-2023 State FFA Officers. During the conference members were able to participate in workshops and meet new friends with a similar mindset.

Our newly installed FFA Chapter 604 was also recognized on the main stage. That was very exciting for our students to experience.

Thank you to our school advisor Mrs. Bailey and staff for making the trip possible. San Joaquin Memorial High School students had a great time and they cannot wait to be back.

Adults that participated in the conference included Mrs. Bailey, her husband Mr. Thomas Bailey and Mrs. Sani. Students who attended include: Emilie Couto, Talyn McCaslin, Brady Stovall, Emilio Carvalho, Abby Burkhart, Lea Verni, Halle Deniz, Haley Elgorriaga and Jaida Sambueso.

We look forward to this event being the beginning of exciting new accomplishments for our FFA Chapter 604 here at Memorial!

Reminder: SJM SAT School Day Testing for Juniors on April 26, 2022

SJM is offering the SAT on our campus during the school day for current juniors on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

The SAT is accepted at U.S. colleges and universities for admissions
consideration. It measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college. Although some colleges will be test-optional for the class of 2023 (test score not required to apply), we still recommend having a test score.

We are pleased to offer SAT School Day at SJM so that:
 Your student is more comfortable and confident by testing in a safe, familiar
setting.
 You don’t have to worry about the logistics of getting to a test center on a
Saturday morning.
 No one has to worry about weekend conflicts or disrupting family time.

Registration was due by April 1, 2022.
