Out of My Mind - Online Book Study for Professionals working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the State of Florida. 

RMT-D/HH is pleased to announce the Out of My Mind online book study for professionals working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the State of Florida. Please join us for this opportunity to earn up to 8 recommended hours of inservice points for participating in an online book study. RMTC-D/HH staff will lead discussions on Sharon Draper's book, Out of My Mind.

Discussions will include implications and applications of assistive technology in narrative text and how these can be applied to students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.

Participants will be expected to attend three virtual meetings for discussion of the book as well as relationship to teaching Expanded Skills for Students who are D/HH and/or the use of assistive technology with students. The dates of the meetings are listed below:

Jan. 27, 2020 - Discussion of Chapters 1-14

Feb. 10, 2020 - Discussion of Chapters 14-33

Feb. 24, 2020 - Final Meeting - Lesson plan presentation (5 minutes each)

Participants in this book study will also be expected to post 1 reflection for every 5 chapters of the book which will be due each week. A response to at least one peer submission is also expected for full credit. Posts in the Padlet can be links, tools, strategies, videos of your reflection (20 seconds or less), memes, pictures, resources, or ANY media you can relate back to the content of the chapters to be read. The final component of the book study is the Assistive Technology Implementation Plan. Participants will submit an assistive technology implementation plan for a student on their caseload. Assistive Technology plans will be shared with the cohort by being uploaded to the book study Padlet.

Activities and resources provided by RMTC-D/HH are available to professional staff who are currently working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in the State of Florida.
