Local elections are vitally important to democracy. Yet, in Lowell, only a fraction of residents turns out to vote.
Lowell city elections are coming up fast. The deadline to register to vote for the municipal preliminary election is September 1. Check out the City of Lowell Elections Calendar for more important dates.
Make sure you don’t miss your chance to help decide who will be your next City Councilors and School Committee members. Not registered? You can register online right now. Think you're already registered? Check again anyway.
This is a big year for local elections.
Lowell has implemented a new hybrid district and at-large voting system, as directed by voters who wanted a more representative elections system. (How did they make this change happen? They voted!) This year, you will have the chance to vote for one district City Councilor, one district School Committee member, three at-large City Councilors, and two at-large School Committee members. Stay tuned for Lowell Vote's 2021 election guide, which will include candidate profiles and much more helpful info.
Right now, the City is working with a consultant to determine polling locations by subdividing Lowell's eight districts. This means that we do not know where to vote yet. As soon as polling locations are released, we will let you know.
Get ready to vote!
