A Year in Review
The Silver Lining with
Golden Results

In this issue, we reflect on our accomplishments and give thanks to all our volunteers and supporters that make rescue happen. Your support has allowed us to have a successful year rescuing nearly 140 dogs, including 32 from overseas!

We were saddened to have to cancel our in-person fundraising events this year, including the Golden Gala and Golden on the Green golf tournament, but our donors have stepped up to cut into those losses. We hope to finish strong through the donations during our holiday campaigns so we can continue our mission to RESCUE.REHAB.ADOPT into the new year.

We wish you a happy holiday season and hope we can celebrate some of our accomplishments together in the coming year.

A Thank You to Our Village
Despite a challenging year for everyone; a year of many changes and adjustments; NRGRR finished the year strong because we have AWE-MAZING volunteers and adopters. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor pandemic can keep us from achieving our mission to Rescue, Rehab, and Adopt! We have Super Powers…YOU!

First and foremost we want to thank ALL of our volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. And secondly, to our adopters for opening your hearts and homes to the Goldens, golden-mixes, and golden-hearted dogs that came to be a part of the NRGRR family in 2020.
Fosters

You are the life-blood….You open your homes to dogs that are scared, broken, unruly (sometimes), in need of training, love, and strong leadership. You help save lives and prepare our dogs for their “happily ever after.”
Operations Team

You do all the behind the scenes work to get dogs pulled from shelters, coordinate owner-surrenders, find transport, coordinate and train our foster families, coordinate our dogs’ medical care, run the Meet and Greets, complete adoption contracts, and SO much more. You make it happen!
Dog Coordinator Team

You coordinate the care of each and every dog that comes into the NRGRR family. You schedule vet appointments and ensure all the dogs’ needs are met; as well as assisting the foster families to ensure a smooth transition into the dog's ultimate furever home. Our dogs are in good hands because of you…thank you!
Applications Team

You process applications, do vet reference checks, submit applications for available dogs. Additionally, this year you personally conducted all home visits (virtually) so our applicants could be approved safely. You are the face to our potential adopters and help them find their furever friend!
Transportation Team

You pick up dogs from shelters and meet other transporters to get dogs to our vet partners for processing. You provide the FREEDOM Ride for our dogs! You are the first to meet our incoming dogs and reassure them that this is the start of a much better life. And by the end of the trip, you can often see the transformation already beginning.
International Rescue Team

You coordinate the transportation of dogs from locations such as China, Turkey, and Kosovo. You drive day and night to pick up dogs from airports up and down the east coast. You made it possible for us to bring in 32 international dogs this year, saving lives and demonstrating that love has no borders!
Dog Behavioral Team

You ensure all behavior issues are appropriately handled, providing training for both the foster families and dogs as required. It takes a village and you are always there to facilitate a smooth transition. Thank you!
Communications Team

You keep everyone informed and up-to-date regarding all NRGRR activities via social media, the website, and the Rescue Ranger. Your efforts keep NRGRR in the news and give us much-needed exposure so we can achieve our mission to Rescue, Rehab, and Adopt!
Resource Development Team

It has been a tough year for fundraising with both major events being canceled, the Golden Gala and Golden on the Green golf tournament. But you have continued to work hard to find ways to bring in resources to the rescue and for that, we are extremely appreciative.
Community Outreach Team

Your work with local shelters, businesses, and corporate entities continues to develop collaborative partnerships for NRGRR. Your efforts are of vital importance to growing our influence, reputation, and financial support…thank you!
Meet and Greet Venue Partners

We want to recognize both Unleashed at AniMall and Zoomy Dogs for hosting the Meet and Greets we held in 2020. They were few and far between this year, but when we were able to meet with potential adopters face-to-face, we were well taken care of! We so appreciate your hospitality.
Vet Partners

We could not do what we do without the great vet partners we have who process our dogs when they come in and make sure they are healthy so they can be adopted. Thank you to the vets, vet techs, and support staff…we appreciate you!
Adopters

What can we say other than WE LOVE OUR ADOPTERS! Thank you for opening your hearts and your homes to the 200+ dogs (on average) that come through NRGRR each year. Many of our adopters go on to become volunteers and advocates for the rescue. We appreciate you!
NRGRR Board of Directors

You are the key decision-makers driving the organization. We appreciate each and every person who serves on the Board of Directors. Thank you for your guidance, your initiative, and your leadership.
Donors

Donors keep us going…allowing us to save more dogs and participate in animal advocacy efforts throughout the state of North Carolina and beyond. Many of our donors are adopters and volunteers. Some are community businesses that support us throughout the year. Your generosity is pure gold – helping us to raise over $20,000 alone on “Giving Tuesday” just this month. Thank you to each and everyone who has supported NRGRR financially throughout the year.
As you can see, It Takes A Village to plan, coordinate, operate, facilitate, and execute all the things that make NRGRR a successful rescue. Your dedicated efforts have made 2020 another memorable year for Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. Truly, together we are golden. It is with a heart of gratitude that we thank each and every one of you!!!
Some of Our 2020 Accomplishments
International Rescue Efforts
We had a slow start with our international rescue efforts this year with only three dogs from Turkey rescued before the pandemic struck. However, in late August we were able to secure flights and flight volunteers to get an additional 29 dogs over from Turkey, China, and Kosovo. Our amazing international volunteers traveled over 6,400 miles in eight separate trips to Dulles and JFK airports to transport the dogs back to Raleigh, checked out by our vets, and into loving foster homes.

These rescues from overseas would not be possible without your generous donations to our international fund.

Fundriasing
While our two major fundraising events were canceled this year, there were many smaller and individual fundraising efforts that took place throughout the year. We just completed a very successful Giving Tuesday where you opened your hearts and wallets to raise over $20,000 for the rescue, including a matching donation of $5000 from Grace Park Animal Hospital, one of our amazing vet partners. Our annual Calendar Contest voting segment brought in a record $18,000+ not including calendar sales. We also held clothing fundraisers featuring new designs for our t-shirt this spring and sweatshirts and lounge pants this fall. This included a $10,000 donation in services from Complete Pet Care Animal Hospitals.

We are most grateful for our volunteers who offered their talents in providing goods and services and offering the proceeds to NRGRR showing they have a true heart-2-rescue. Thank you to everyone who created Facebook fundraisers, engaging their family and friends, to help raise nearly $10,000 for the rescue. And a special thanks go to our Golden Guardians who have sponsored a special dog through foster care.

Fosters
Finding (human) fosters this year was not a problem with so many folks working from home. In fact, we had a record number of fosters and are on target to hit 100 by year’s end. In 2019 we had a total of 70 fosters, so 2020 yielded a significant increase over prior years…a good problem to have!

Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to help out, providing a safe haven for our dogs as they received necessary medical care, heartworm treatment, they were house-broken, leash trained, and learned the fine art of living in a home!

A special thanks to the following fosters who shared their passion for fostering with others through the Rescue Ranger this year. We hope their stories have inspired, encouraged, and educated others regarding the fostering process. Those fosters include:
Ellen Yu
Keri and Ross Ackerman and family
Jerry Yang
Dawn Clement
