Dear Pace Community,
Yesterday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that while New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania now meet the criteria for New York State’s COVID-19 travel restrictions, because of the interconnected nature of our region no new restrictions will be imposed. He did, however, ask that people limit themselves to only essential travel to New York from those neighboring states.

The limit on non-essential travel is a recommendation, not a requirement. Even so, you should know that institutions of higher education have been deemed essential operations in New York, and therefore anyone traveling to Pace University from those states is engaged in essential travel.

Our goal remains maintaining a vibrant campus community while ensuring the well-being of everyone at Pace. Faculty and staff should continue to consult with their supervisors to determine whether they should work on campus or remotely, considering where work will get done best and where an on-campus presence will have the greatest impact.

Even with the recent spikes, COVID positivity rates in the northeast remain among the lowest in the country. We will continue the community monitoring program on our three campuses that has been so effective in allowing us to identify and isolate positive cases. Low-cost or free testing is increasingly available at pharmacies and walk-in clinics throughout our region, plus the Departments of Health in New York City and Westchester continue to offer free testing. We encourage you to get a test if you are concerned about potential exposure.

The best practices remain the same. Complete the daily health screening on the Pace Safe app. Stay home if you’re not feeling well. Wear face coverings. Avoid large gatherings. Remain distanced from others. Wash your hands.

Working together, we’ll continue to keep our campuses safe.
Sincerely,
Brian Anderson
Director, Environmental Health and Safety
