Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Families,

Updated Mask Guidance
On Sunday, November 29, I informed the community of the work and collaboration that occurred over Thanksgiving break with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Orange County Health Department.  This work was done to determine if the CDPH's "Schools and School Based Programs" document dated August 3, 2020 superseded the most recent document, "Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings"  issued on November 16, 2020.  We received confirmation from the Orange County Health Department that, "Per the guidelines, 'Face coverings are strongly encouraged for young children between two years old and second grade", for the safety of all children, their family, and staff.'  I sent the information up to the Diocesan Office of Schools and received confirmation today that validated this clarification.  The Diocese additionally noted that "schools are considered 'controlled environments' and the new mask guidance calls for mask wearing in public spaces that are not controlled.  In short, we will adhere to the school re-opening guidelines which state that students in grades 3-12 are required to use a face mask."

The chart as originally published in our reopening guidelines will remain our guide at this time.  Should parents of students ages three years old through second grade desire for their student to wear a mask during school hours, please send them to school with a mask on and we will ensure they wear it during the day.

Internet Access
Today we were notified that Spectrum will be doing emergency maintenance on our internet between 12 AM and 6 AM.  When this has occurred in the past, there have been some technical issues we needed to address as we arrived on campus.  Should there be any delays to our Zooms starting on time, a text message will be sent out to all families.

Wind Advisory
This Thursday, the forecast shows a "high wind watch" from 1:00 AM Thursday through 12:00 PM Friday.  Should this occur, we will move our hybrid students in the outdoor classrooms into alternative indoor classroom spaces.

Possible Power Outage
In true 2020 form, Southern California Edison notified our zip code 92887, that in an effort to prevent fires on high wind days, they may utilize planned power shutdowns.  Should this occur for an extended period of time, a text will be sent to all families notifying them that the school needs to be closed for the day.

Please contact our office between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM at x105 with any questions.

Blessings,

Jeannette Lambert
