Dear Wonderful Lovejoy Community:
|
|
One Heart. One Lovejoy. is a core value which our entire community has embraced. It is easy to see it in action when we celebrate State Championships, see a student achieve new levels of exceptional, or even have a school accomplish something unexpected like raising money to build clean water wells in another country. But, the true essence of One Heart. One Lovejoy. is tested in weeks like this one.
I’ve never experienced anything like I did on Tuesday night. A community coming together to support the loss of one of our own, the hurting hearts of a family, and the sadness of classmates, teachers and staff who loved Clay Chapman. In what could have engaged us in continual grief, this community rallied and we were able to celebrate the life, however short and brief, of the Heart of a Champion.
The stands were packed full of a supportive community, as I watched Clay’s sister Sydney play in her JV Basketball game Tuesday evening. Every time Sydney hit one of her four three-point shots, the crowd cheered with excitement and the therapeutic process began to set it. Sydney ended with 12 points and 10 assists. I couldn’t wait to hug her neck after the game.
It was powerful.
Before the beginning of the Girls Varsity game, the entire Chapman family was honored as the teams (including Clay’s 5th grade team) gathered with them in a circle at center court, and we remembered Clay through: 22 seconds of silence before the game (Clay's 5th grade basketball jersey number was #22) .
The heart of this community was amazing and will continue to be evident, as we support the Chapman Family as we would our own. Clay would be proud that we have come together as a Leopard Family and surrounded his family with love.
It has been a powerful reminder of what is most important in our lives - Faith, Family, Connection, Community. Thank you, Lovejoy Community, for being One Heart. One Lovejoy., not when it is easiest, but even when our hearts hurt and it is the hardest to do so. This is what makes Lovejoy so special.
I would never have imagined having to experience a heartache like this, of losing one of our own, but this week was another reminder of why I wanted to be in Lovejoy ISD.
Because we are One Heart. One Lovejoy.
Love you Clay. Thank you for the special time we had together. Once a Leopard, Always a Leopard.

|
February 18th -
School Board Meeting - 7:00 pm
|
|
The elementary campouts are an opportunity for parents, students, teachers, and staff to come together with the community for a night of fun, fellowship, and service. Each elementary campus hosts its own event that provides a night of activities for the whole family and culminates with an overnight campout under the stars. In addition to building community, this event also serves as a primary fundraiser for each campus. Funds raised during the campout event ensure LISD can continue to provide our students with premier educational programs. This event truly is a great example of One Heart. One Lovejoy.
