"Free, Free, Free!" is an e-newsletter and website that provides a monthly curated list of free programs, events and activities happening throughout the city in our libraries, museums, cultural centers and parks. We encourage you to express your culture through the arts and take advantage of the many opportunities the City of Chicago provides you to engage, create and participate!

Year of Chicago Music
Year of Chicago Music 2020, Citywide
 
Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events have designated 2020 as the "Year of Chicago Music." The citywide, year-long initiative includes the launch of a marketing campaign for Chicago music, financial grants for music projects, an industry dialog around inclusion and equity, and a call for civic, philanthropic, arts, and business leaders to support the music industry.

Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts features solo and ensemble performances of classical music that showcase emerging performers. Pianist-Architect Mayta Liu Lerttamrab has taken a unique path in his musical endeavors. The Thai-Chinese-American pianist has one of the most diverse backgrounds comparing to other musicians around the world. Known for his intense and passionate interpretations in his performance, Mayta continues to silence all who doubt his improbable music career, while erasing musicianship level gap between Thai and International musicians.

Enjoy traditional Cantonese opera performed by Zhaoqiu Chinese American ART Center at Chinatown. Cantonese opera has been a popular form of drama and musical theater in China, and has been reformed and continues to be performed today. The acting and singing techniques, as well as makeup conventions, owe much to southern China tradition.
