Another Read Across America is in the books! Dr. Seuss was all over the place and his books were brought to life with Northwood School staff and students dressing up as characters. Do you remember which book from Dr. Seuss you enjoy the most? If you do, why is it your favorite? A good book allows you to expand your thoughts and imagination and also helps you open up future life opportunities. If you don’t do this already, I encourage you to read as much as you can with your kiddo. It does not always be a book. Reading materials could be newspaper clippings, ingredients to a recipe, audiobooks, or anything you desire! Here are some articles for you to read about the importance of reading, hope you enjoy it!
The kindergarteners want to thank the Winslow-Martin family for bringing in two of their baby sheep for us to meet. We enjoyed the lamb cuddles!
News from Sixth Grade
Today in 6G, the students were responsible for reviewing the area formulas we have been learning. Groups of three or four took on one of our 2-D shapes and was responsible for teaching the rest of the class the formulas, why it works, and give some examples. They then had to provide a practice problem for the class, coaching their peers through the work to check for understanding. They created visuals and worked as a team! It was a great success!
News from Title I Math
Did you know 3.14% of sailors are pirates? Just kidding, it’s a Pi Day joke. (Not to be confused with pie day, which is January 23rd.) Pi Day is an annual celebration on March 14th as the first three digits of Pi are 3.14. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent one of the oldest and the most recognized mathematical constants in the world. Pi (π) is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter. Its value is approximately equal to 3.14159265. Pi Day was founded in 1988 by a man named Larry Shaw, an employee of the Exploratorium. It is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about math, and eat pie.
