Acts of chesed (loving kindness) are an essential part of TJC’s B’nai Mitzvah experience. Typically during the 6th grade year, every student commits to 10 or more hours of hands-on community service. At the conclusion of the experience, students reflect on what they accomplished and learned in the Chesed Reporter. Since the Chesed Reporter is traditionally distributed in the sanctuary on Shabbat morning, we are now sharing it with the congregation in our Weekly Newsletter.

G-d creates the universe out of chaos, separating light from darkness and sea from dry land, producing vegetation of all kinds, and establishing the sun and moon. G-d makes living creatures in the air and on the earth, and creates male and female humans in the image of G-d. The process takes six days. G-d blesses the world with the capacity to renew and reproduce itself and deems it “good.” On the seventh day G-d rests and sanctifies it as the holy Sabbath.
A parallel account of the creation of humankind follows, introducing us to Adam and Eve, who are placed in the Garden of Eden and commanded to rule over the animals. They are forbidden to eat from the fruit of the tree of knowledge and the tree of life. But a serpent convinces Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge, and she influences Adam to do the same. As punishment, G-d banishes them from the garden, requiring them to work the land ceaselessly for food and promising pain during childbirth.
Adam and Eve’s sons, Cain and Abel, each offer a sacrifice to G-d. When
G-d chooses Abel’s sacrifice only, Cain’s anger causes him to kill his brother. G-d punishes Cain by forcing him to live the rest of his life as a wanderer on earth.
Ten generations of humanity are catalogued. By the end of the last generation, humanity’s wickedness is so pervasive that G-d regrets his creation and looks to one man, Noah, to begin anew.

Calling all Mercer County Seniors:
Get Involved in this Election by Counting Mail-in Ballots!
TJC Member Ruth Schulman is recruiting seniors that are interested in being trained to count mail-in ballots. If interested, Ruth will forward your information to the Mercer County Board of Elections who will contact you directly once they have finalized their plans for this potential volunteer effort.
If you are interested in volunteering, send your full name (as listed on voter registration), postal address, email address, and phone number to Ruth at Schulman.Ruth@gmail.com. Please include your registration status (registered Democrat or Republican or Other -- a variety of voters is important) and the following statement: "I am interested in learning more about volunteering to be trained as a ballot counter."
If you live outside Mercer County, call your local Board of Elections and tell them what Mercer County is doing, and volunteer to be a ballot counter.
The Jewish Center's Social Action Committee wishes to thank Ruth for organizing this effort and all Seniors for considering it.

You are invited to a fun, interactive event for the whole family
It's an exclusive experience which will take place LIVE in your home. And specifically in your own mind.
Yes, by special arrangement, the country's leading mentalist SIDNEY FRIEDMAN, as seen on numerous TV shows such as the TODAY SHOW, 20/20, and THE VIEW, will perform for our Federation community via ZOOM, interacting with all of us in our homes with what can only be described as a demonstration of extraordinary mind power feats, telepathy and his unique musical mindreading ability. Sidney will literally read your mind from 1,000 miles away!
This show is a celebration of life and our community. As we learn to connect in new and exciting ways, Sidney will interact and share in an experience that is meaningful, allowing us to feel present, capturing a moment in time where, together, we will all make the impossible possible.
