COVID-19 Update
This week Austin Public Health officials addressed the increased number of cases in Travis County. Daily reported cases surpassed 100 each day so far this week for the first time, with Tuesday seeing the highest number to date in Travis County at 161. In a live Q&A earlier this week, health officials attributed the possible rise due in part to activities before and during the Memorial Day holiday. Positive cases are input on the day the results come back, not when tests are performed, so there is a lag time between the potential onset of symptoms, when the tests are conducted and when the results are posted. That lag time could be several days to more than a week. Additionally, the positivity rate is 9.2%, which is up from previous weeks. That percentage is the comparison between the number of tests given and the number that come back positive. In Travis County, the average daily hospitalizations has increased to around 15 on a 7-day rolling average. If Travis County reaches 20 hospitalizations on a 7-day rolling average, that would trigger Stage 4, which could included enhanced restrictions. There are currently 112 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 in a five-county Central Texas area (including Travis County). Click here to view the Travis County assessment tool. Mayor Cox addressed this topic in yesterday's Facebook Live. Click here to watch the two-part videos on our FB Channel. If you believe you need a test, click here to take the free assessment, which will include details on testing if you qualify.

Per the Governor's Phase 3 plan to 'Open Texas,' restaurants will be able to serve dine-in customers indoors at a 75% capacity starting today. Other businesses were allowed to begin a 50% capacity last week. Click here for health and safety protocol sheets for the safe opening of businesses from the Governor's office.

While the Swim Center, Activity Center and Heritage Center are now open to a limited capacity, other facilities including City Hall remain closed to in-person visits. Regular hours of operation still continue for most city services. The regular City Council meeting will once again be conducted through video conference on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. The agenda will be posted this afternoon. Here is a further breakdown of the numbers compared to previous weeks. Austin-Travis County is reporting that there have been 4,238 positive COVID-19 cases to date in Travis County. That number is up by 676 compared to the same time last week, 438 the week before that and 412 the week before that one. Please continue to wash your hands regularly, practice social distancing, and while it's not mandatory to wear face coverings, it's still strongly encouraged in public. The Governor's Order also still states there should be no more than 10 people in a group, and proper 6-feet social distancing guidelines should be maintained between groups. Thank you for helping keep our community protected during this difficult and unusual time.
