Paula Clayton Dempsey in front of Oak Chapel Baptist Church, Orange, Va. in 1985.
In August, Paula submitted notice informing the Alliance of her plan to retire in the Fall of 2021 and her intention to prepare the way for the next chapter in the life of the organization. Her retirement will mark the culmination of a life of 40 years in ministry for which the Alliance is incredibly grateful.

While over seventy-four million people voted to elect Joe Biden president, seventy-one million voted to re-elect President Trump. From my perspective the unwillingness or inability of President Trump to provide that moral leadership disqualified him for office. So what do I do, what do we do, in dealing with those people who supported him?

"In the spring during the first surge in cases and fatalities, our emergency medicine group took the step of identifying the most experienced physician under the age of 50 and without co-morbidities on each shift to be the “intubating physician” for Covid suspected patients in emergency need of being placed on a mechanical ventilator. This intubation procedure is known to aerosolize virus particles and contains significant risk of exposure for the proceduralist and team. Since I’ve been out of med school for 20 years and am 48 years old, when I am on shift it is frequently me."

Join us on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1 on Facebook Live, as we raise $10,000 to support the Alliance of Baptists' CAIRN (Clergy Affiliate Information and Resource Network) Journey Group Program!

Channeling the telethons of times past, the Zoom-a-thon will be hosted by Alliance staff Cathy and Jason, who will lead a fun evening of laughter and cheer, streamed live on Facebook. Donors who give $50 or more on Dec. 1 will receive an Alliance tote bag, and the winners of the call-in Zoom-a-thon games will receive a special Alliance rainbow t-shirt! Plus, all donations will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $5000!

Make plans to tune in and join us on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1, and give to support the Alliance! The call-in information will be provided on the day of the event through social media and email.

This event is free and does not require registration.

Check out Advent at Home, a resource created for those who follow Jesus and who believe that Black Lives Matter and that Jesus was brown, who are queer or queer affirming, who value inclusive and gender neutral language, who expect sound theology, who value creative expressions of faith and faithful expressions of artistry, and who yearn to draw near to the holy.

  • The 2020 Sacred Seasons Advent/Christmastide Packet from Seeds of Hope is here! This year's theme is "Breath of God." Our team began the planning for this packet with the terms "short of breath" and "I can't breathe" in the forefront of our minds, so we followed that leading to many layers of biblical and current meanings through the traditional themes of Advent and Christmastide. Find it here.
