Appreciating Our Volunteers: Ayndi Foster:Thank you for what you do!

I found out about NAF a little over 2 years ago when my dad was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. They have helped get my dad back to living a more normal life despite his injury with equipment and supplies. I have chosen to volunteer with NAF because it helps give people back their lives. Most people don't take into consideration all of the costs that come with spinal cord injuries -  wheelchairs and other supplies are not cheap at all. The NAF Golf Classic has been an exciting volunteering experience. This past year I was able to get my company, Triumph Business Capitol, to help lend support. We were able to raise money by Ice Bucket Challenge to be a sponsor for the golf tournament. NAF has helped our family transition to this new season of life that is not what we were ever expecting to happen. I continue to volunteer so that I can give back and help impact others' lives the way NAF has my family - Ayndi

Meet Just A Few of Our 2015 Clients!

Alex - age 15 - Alex was born with spina bifida and is a full time wheelchair user. Alex loves to participate in wheelchair basketball and because of his active nature, he has started having problems with pressure sores. NAF is providing Alex with a pressure releasing mattress for his bed and a similar cushion for his seating.

Marcus - age 43 - Marcus was injured in 1990 and is living with tetraplegia. His Invacare power chair is just over a year old and it broke. The warranty, of course, only covered one year. NAF is repairing his wheelchair while he recuperates in a Fort Worth hospital following surgery.

Ashley - age 36 - Ashley is a mother of an 8 year old special needs son, Braydon. Following a spinal procedure, she is now living with paraplegia. Since her wheelchair will not fit through her doorways, NAF is providing lumber, supplies and labor to have her home modified before she goes home from rehab.

Ashley & Braydon

Edgar - age 41 - Edgar is living with tetraplegia from an injury several years ago. Due to some pressure problems with his current mattress, Edgar needs to have a new "pressure releasing" mattress for his bed. NAF received exactly the mattress that he needs as a donation a few months ago. We moved the mattress out of storage and into Edgar's home.

Carmella - age 45 - Carmella was injured in a fall 10 years ago and lives with a T11-T12 spinal cord injury. Due to ten years of pushing and pulling on her manual wheelchair, Carmella is starting to have problems with her shoulders, neck and arms. She recently had neck surgery and needed help with moving into a power chair temporarily. NAF provided Carmella with a Smart Drive power add-on for her manual chair. The power add-on can turn her chair into a power chair when she wants to rest her arms. Carmella is pictured here with some of the kids she works with at Advent Urban Youth Development, a non-profit in our community whose mission is: To  transform under served urban neighborhoods by providing its youth with tangible love, holistic resilience, and authentic community. We're so proud of the work you do, Carmella. If you would like to learn more about Advent Urban Youth Development, click here

Seeking the Perfect Job

Job searching can be a hassle when you able bodied, but when you get tied to a wheelchair it seems as though your search becomes that much more difficult. This doesn't have to be the case if you know there are groups out there to ensure equal opportunity among all groups in society. This, naturally, includes the group of people with spinal cord injuries. Equal Opportunities Publication is a "Diversity and Inclusion Career Center; a premier diversity online job board. We connect employers dedicated to hiring a diversified workforce with qualified job seekers in all career backgrounds."
This is a great resource to post a job, search for a job, and know that each company is seeking to maintain the equal opportunity standard needed for the success of the American society.

You can visit their website at http://www.eop.com/career.php and check out what job postings might fir your needs and desires.

We Need Your Help

Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer

Change lives; make a difference.

Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.

Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.

Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.

Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.
