Conservation District Watershed Specialist Meeting Moves to Virtual Format
With the safety of attendees in mind, the Conservation District Watershed Specialist Meeting will be moving to a virtual format for 2020. Sessions will take place October 6-8, 2020, as planned, but as a combination of webinars and online meetings.

Beaver County Conservation District Holds Manure Management Workshops
As part of their Nonpoint Source Pollution Prevention Educational Mini-grant Project, the Beaver County Conservation District held two workshops in early March.The goal was to train local farmers in the development of manure management and agricultural erosion and sedimentation plans. Four manure management plans were completed as a result of the project.
Financial and other support for this project is provided by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

DEP Launches Healthy Waters, Healthy Communities Story Map for Chesapeake Bay Watershed
The Pennsylvania DEP Communications Office has launched a multimedia story map called "Healthy Waters, Healthy Communities" in celebration of Chesapeake Bay Watershed Awareness Week. The story map educates Pennsylvanians on the watershed, the many ways it benefits them, and steps they can take--including joining their Countywide Action Plan--to help reduce nutrient and sediment runoff pollution in our local waters.
Check it out for tips, printable handouts, and "deep dives" on trees, water quality monitoring, recreation and agriculture economies, and other topics. There are also great stories about Pennsylvanians who are making a difference. There is a York County homeowner who turned his one-acre suburban yard into a bioswale and rain garden, eleven Blair County municipalities partnering on stormwater management, and a Lycoming County farmer whose livestock benefited from stream bank buffers. Soil Health Webinar Targets Non-Operating Agricultural Landowners
The way farmland is managed can create benefits for water quality, climate change, and human health. Join Steve Groff, the Cover Crop Coach, and Sarah Everhart, with the University of Maryland's Agriculture Law Education Initiative, to learn how landowners and tenant farmers can work together to improve the soil health on the farm.
This free, three-part webinar series will teach landowners about soil health and its importance for the value of their farmland. They'll also walk away with tips and tools for communicating with their farmer and setting common goals for their land.
- July 14 - Protect Your Investment with Soil Health - Steve Groff will talk about soil health for landowners: what it is, why it's important, and how to increase it.
- July 21 - Win-Win Strategies and Tools - Sarah Everhart will discuss how to communicate with tenant farmers and how to develop a simple lease that will help ensure you achieve common goals.
- July 28 - Bringing It All Together - Steve and Sarah will answer common questions about soil health and communication between farmers and landowners, and how to overcome barriers to better land management.
