IN THIS ISSUE
Father's Day is a on Sunday, June 21 and we'd like to recognize all the special dads that day during worship. If you'd like to honor your father, please send his photo to Julie at [email protected], by June 18, so that it can be included in the presentation. Scroll down for more details.

Rector's Ramblings

I've always had an affinity for shows about police and detective dramas. I'm not alone; it's one of the most popular genres on television. I remember watching Hillstreet Blues as a kid. There was NYPD Blue, Law and Order, CSI Miami, and more recently Southland, Longmire, and Narcos. Truth be told, there are a lot of others that I've watched and forgotten, or only seen some of. I watch such shows because I enjoy them for the entertainment value.

Worship

Worship This Week

Please join us on Sunday, at 9:15 am, for online Morning Prayer with music, which will be available  on the Christ Church Facebook page here , on our YouTube page here , or the Christ Church website here .

Trouble With Auto-Captioning During Online Worship Services

We have been told that several people are having issues with auto-captioning during our live streams on Facebook. Our Parish Administrator (and tech guru), Glenn Queener, has made a video tutorial that shows you how to disable closed captioning on all videos on Facebook. Check it out HERE.

Daily Morning Prayer, Wherever You Are
Start your day and lift your spirits each morning by reading Morning Prayer. If you're at home and have your prayer book handy, find a quiet spot, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and select Morning Prayer I (BCP page 37) or Morning Prayer II (BCP page 75) and begin. If you're away from home, you can find the Book of Common Prayer at https://www.bcponline.org and the Scripture and Collects of the Day at http://lectionarypage.net.

Father's Day 2020
Father's Day is one week from this Sunday and as we did on Mother's Day, we would like to honor our fathers and those who have mentored and cared for us like fathers, with a photo tribute during our Sunday morning worship service, on June 21, 2020. If you would like to honor or remember your loved one during this service, please send your photos to Julie at [email protected], along with the gentlemen's names and we will include them in the tribute that week. Please have your photos in by 12:00 NOON, on Thursday, June 18. If you do not have a digital image to submit, you can bring an actual photo to the church office and we will convert it. Please put the photo into a waterproof Ziploc bag and put that into a bag or mailing envelope that is clearly marked with your name, your father's name, your phone number and your email address, so we can make sure to get your photo back to you. If the office is locked, please leave the envelope on the front porch of the Parish House. Thank you!

Racial Justice and Healing - How to Learn More
If you want to learn about how we can work toward racial justice and healing, here's a good suggestion from the Diocese of Georgia.

R ead and Discuss
Just Mercy

This book by Bryan Stevenson was the Diocese of Georgia's book for Lent 2019, but if you didn't get a chance to participate in that study, you might enjoy reading this book now, perhaps along with family and friends. Bishop Logue has created study this guide to go along with the book. It is available to download HERE.
In this coming of age memoir, Stevenson recounts his early career and the cases that led him to found the Equal Justice Initiative. He worked through the United States Supreme Court to prohibit sentencing children under 18 to death or to life imprisonment without parole. Stevenson has assisted in cases that have saved dozens of prisoners from the death penalty, advocated for poor people, and developed community-based reform litigation aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice.

The book is available in paperback and as an audio-book read by the author. There are also several copies available for purchase in the Christ Church Book Shop. If you'd be interested in obtaining one, please contact Glenn Queener at 912-638-8683.
Forward Day by Day
If you are a regular reader of the Forward Day by Day devotionals that are typically available in the Christ Church office and would like to continue to have access to them, please contact Glenn Queener at [email protected]. Glenn would like to have your name and street address, so he can send you copies of the booklets. You can also find the devotionals online here.

The Men's Study Group that meets on Wednesdays, at 10:30 am, is continuing its exploration of contemporary spirituality , using Reading the Bible again for the First Time, by the provacative twenty-first century theologian, Dr. Marcus Borg.

Borg was among the most widely known and influential voices in progressive Christianity. As a fellow of the Jesus Seminar, a group of about fifty scholars, they set about to revise popular, mostly 19th century views, of the historicity of the sayings of Jesus of NazarethBorg was a major figure in their historical Jesus challenge. Before his untimely death in 2015, he retired as Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University in 2007.

Backpack Buddies In The Community

While our Backpack Buddies do spend a lot of time on the Christ Church assembly line, putting together nutritious weekend food bags for Glynn County students week after week, they also get out and about in the community, making sure that everybody gets the food they need! You'll find them at pick-up locations like our sister church, St. Athansius, and out at Second Harvest, working the drive-through pick-up line.

Second Harvest is an invaluable partner to the Backpack Buddy mission, and in May alone, we purchased over 7200 pounds of deeply discounted food from their warehouse. Without this food from Second Harvest, we would not be able to serve nearly as many children as we do. If you'd like to help the mission at Second Harvest, you can make a donation at https://www.helpendhunger.org

If you can help the Backpack Buddies with a few food items, this week's wish list includes:

* Fruit Cups
* Vienna Sausages
* Beanee Weenees
* Paper Grocery Bags
*Plastic Grocery Bags

We are alway grateful for your purchases! Any and all items may be dropped off on the front porch at the Christ Church Parish House.

If you would like to help the Backpack Buddies ministry with a monetary donation, it would be greatly appreciated. You can donate by check (just mail it to Christ Church, at 6329 Frederica Road St. Simons Island, GA 31522 - check memo, Backpack Buddies) or give online here (choose Backpack Program).

As always, we are deeply grateful all our generous sponsors and our committed and caring set-up crews, packers, drivers and delivery volunteers, who keep this mission going week after week! THANK YOU!

For more information about the Backpack Buddies program, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected]

Honey Creek Needs Your Help!
Honey Creek has been essentially closed since mid-March due to COVID-19, which means it's had precious little in the way of income and financial support.

Despite the lack of income, we must still somehow continue to manage and keep Honey Creek up and running. The blue tarps covering holes in Stuart Hall and Lodge One roofs are wearing thin and hurricane season is now upon us. The aged well and pool are also in desperate need of serious repairs, something must be done and soon.

There's a way you can help and at the same time get a little piece of Honey Creek for yourself. Show your love for Honey Creek and let others know you're doing your part in helping out during this dark time.

Purchase your " Honey Creek Is My Happy Place " T-shirt for only $28, which includes shipping and handling. Order extras for friends and family and share this info with anyone you know that also loves Honey Creek.
Make sure everyone knows where YOUR happy place is!

HOW TO ORDER:
Email [email protected] with your size, color choice (cranberry, sapphire or moss green) and shipping address, no later than June 17, 2020.

HOW TO PAY:
