Proposals Requested for Everyone Eats ProgramSubheading

$5 million available for community projects that engage restaurants in emergency feeding

In response to COVID-19, restaurants, farmers and community organizations across Vermont
have stepped forward to help feed neighbors experiencing food insecurity. These programs
have helped stabilize communities by nourishing Vermonters, alleviating the surging demand on
food shelves, and providing economic support to restaurants. The State of Vermont has
allocated $5M from the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) to a new program called Everyone Eats,
which supports restaurants feeding Vermonters who have been negatively impacted by
COVID-19.

Southeastern Vermont Community Action Agency (SEVCA), the fiscal agent for the program, is
requesting proposals from the community organizations around the state. Proposals should
feature collaborative partnerships that address the three goals of providing nutritious meals to
Vermonters in need of meal assistance, providing a revenue source for restaurants that have
been economically impacted by COVID-19, and providing Vermont farms and food producers
with an opportunity to increase sales.

Participating restaurants will be paid $10/meal and at least 10% of the ingredients for each meal
must be sourced from local farms and value-added food producers. Projects will be awarded on
a rolling basis starting the first week of August until the funds have been allocated. Program
funds need to be expended by December 18, 2020.
The Request for Proposal can be accessed by visiting: https://www.sevca.org/vt-everyone-eats
An information session will be hosted to provide an overview of the program and application
process.

Everyone Eats is being developed by a Statewide Task Force with representatives from
organizations with expertise in hunger relief, the restaurant industry, local food and agriculture
systems, and key project partners like the VT Agency of Commerce & Community Development
(ACCD) and Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA).

U.S. Congress Close to Passing an Extension of the Payroll Protection Program (PPP)
On Tuesday June 30, 2020, the U.S. Senate passed a bill to extend the application period to August 8, 2020. The program has about $130 billion in funds remaining. Congress is scheduled to recess by the end of this week, so expectations are that the House will follow suit and pass the extension.

So talk to your financial advisor or accountant and take advantage of these loans that turn into grants if used for payroll!
You can stretch the payroll period to use the funds up to 24 weeks! It was originally only 8 weeks.

Downtown and Village Center tax credit program  Applications for next round of tax credits due Wed July 1, 2020

As we move forward, businesses and employees must understand that how they work is essential to resuming and maintaining business operations. Preventing outbreaks and limiting the spread of COVID-19 is the only way to avoid future business and social disruption. The success of this phased restart will depend in large part on the ability of employers and employees to adhere to the public health, safety, and social distancing measures essential to limiting the spread of illness. To that end, the following is required of all businesses currently operating and those re-started:

Mask Mandate Signage Available

Brandon Police Dept assists in local distribution of "Mask Requirements" posters
Businesses may pick up posters at Carr's Gifts on Center Street

As of Saturday, August 1, 2020, Vermonters and visitors are required to wear masks or cloth facial coverings over their nose and mouth any time they are in public spaces, indoors or outdoors, where they come in contact with others from outside their households, especially in congregate settings, and where it is not possible to maintain a physical distance of at least six feet.
Masks or cloth facial coverings are not required when someone is engaged in strenuous exercise or activity, for anyone under the age of 2, any child or adult with a medical or developmental issue or challenge that is complicated or irritated by a facial covering, anyone with difficulty breathing or as further set forth in guidance issued by the Vermont Department of Health. A person who declines to wear a mask or cloth face covering because of a medical or developmental issue, or difficulty breathing, shall not be required to produce documentation, or other evidence, verifying the condition.
Businesses and non-profit and government entities shall implement measures notifying customers or clients of the requirement to wear masks or facial coverings, which may include, but shall not be limited to, posting signage stating that masks or cloth facial coverings are required and denial of entry or service to customers or clients who decline to wear masks or facial coverings.

ACCD has available signage for businesses, organizations, and partners to help inform that masks will be required on August 1st. The signage options also include posters to help explain why it is important to wear a mask and are part of the larger statewide mask education effort being coordinated through ACCD and the Agency of Human Services.

Sensible Voice, LLC- Greg Smela
gsmela@ssvt.net       802-236-3197

COVID-19 has changed many of our business processes and made us rethink how we work. For many of us, this has meant losing the ability to accept orders - for meals, products, or services - that could routinely be handled in person. If you have a website you may or may not have the ability to accept orders and payments online.
If you don't, you need to ask if it is worth the expense and time to create one yourself or hire someone to do it for you.

If you have an existing website, can you add some type of customer service platform to supplement it without it costing an arm and a leg? As an example, I've been talking with one local business who has been handling orders during these troubled times solely by phone and email which has involved some juggling to prevent confusion.
I believe I have an answer for you and invite you to a Zoom meeting to discuss an idea I've been tossing around called "Brandon Takeout" which will allow any Brandon area business to accept orders and/or payments online even if you don't have an online presence. (Brandon Takeout implies a food-related model but it really can apply to any business looking to accept orders or provide services.)

Please join me for the Zoom meeting below and we'll informally talk about these things, answer any questions you may have, and present the idea of Brandon Takeout which is designed to allow your customers to place orders and tender payments on a locally-produced, secure, online hub. I produced my first eCommerce service in 1996 and have seen what works and what doesn't.

If you are interested, please register at: www.ssvt.net/BACCregister and you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you!
Greg Smela

Remember- 9 great FREE summer concerts every Wednesday in July & August!
7:00pm At our beautiful new pavilion behind
the Brandon Inn

What a great way to enjoy the summer, friends and neighbors and great music. Walk on our beautiful new sidewalks over to the bucolic lawns behind the Inn and relax on a perfect Vermont summer evening!
Please try to adhere to social distancing as much as possible and hang in your own pod. We want this to be safe and fun and not do anything to compromise all the hard work that Vermonters have been doing to keep us all healthy.

Many thanks to the chamber committee that's put together this "new" style of concerts and done so much work to keep things on an even keel. This is the 5th year we've done this and everyone seems to enjoy the music and camaraderie on our sweet summer nights.
Thanks go out to Stacey Doucette, Seth Hopkins, Sarah Pattis, Wade Davis & Bill Moore.

Rain outs will NOT be held inside the Inn. We'll try to put a sign out that states "No Concert Tonight"
Thanks for your support in our fundraiser and for coming out to support the great bands we have year after year.

Senior Citizens Center
News from Kathy Mathis

The Senior Center is closed, but we are serving the free community take out curb side pick up lunches every Friday till August 31st. Bagged lunch includes a different lunch each week with dessert included from Noon to 1:00.   All are welcome. We also are doing the monthly dinners as take out.
We hope to be able to open September 1st. Keep your fingers crossed.

We also have opened up for the Visiting Nurses Toe Nail Clinic. The food shelf has also moved from the basement of the Congo Church to downstairs at the Sr. Ctr. This way it is easier for both us and the clients and it's handicapped accessible!

Brandon Area Food Shelf needs monetary donations to keep up with the food insecurities that are arising.
No pick up at food shelf. Will deliver and put outside of door. Must call me with name, phone # and address.
People will have to understand that this drop off is not their week's worth of groceries, but just "emergency assistance" and that we all have to work together to share with a hungry neighbor.

Hannaford Supermarket
247-4113

NEW HOURS-
Starting Sunday 5/10 we will be going back to our normal hours.
Sunday 7am -9pm, Monday - Saturday 7am - 10pm.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7am - 8am reserved for senior/high risk shoppers.

At Hannaford, we're committed to helping you and your families to stay safe and healthy during this challenging time. We've implemented extensive social distancing practices and other safeguards in our store. These include limiting the number of customers that are allowed in the store at one time and also having the aisles flow one way, so please follow the arrows while shopping.
Tips for our customers to help us, who are working in the store everyday, stay safe and healthy:

Please shop alone when possible, make a list to make your shopping trip quicker, try to do one big weekly shop rather than several small ones. We stock shelves during the day so please help us with social distancing for the safety of all. We are working very hard to get the shelves stocked and full but some items are not available and out of our control. At this time we are not allowing reusable bags in the store.
Thank you all for your continued support through this challenging time.

Town Hall updates
Scheduling and other info

2020 Updated Letter/Info for canceling Town Hall season

The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Town Hall (FOTH), at a July 19 meeting, came to the decision to cancel the remainder of the 2020 season of events. This difficult decision was made to protect the health and safety of FOTH's patrons, performers and volunteers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the strict requirements to be followed in order to open safely for everyone, the Board chose to close. Most of the previously scheduled performers have already rescheduled for the 2021 season to a date similar to this year. A complete revised schedule will be published next spring. Many sponsor donations from this year have decided to roll over into the 2021 season. If any sponsor wishes a refund or request any changes, please contact Dennis at (802) 247-5420 or @ denniswmarden@gmail.com  To all our patrons, thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. With your continued support we will make the 2021 season the best ever. Be safe and thank you. The Board of Directors of The Friends of the Brandon Town Hall.

Green Mt Power has app to let customers support small biz and nonprofits

f
Michael Shank suggests novel solar credits sharing program

Green Mountain Power kicked off a program Wednesday that will allow customers to share solar credits with small businesses recovering from the loss of income caused by the pandemic.
It joins an enhanced rebate program as ways to decrease fossil fuel use in responsible ways.

The app was inspired by an email sent March 20 by Michael Shank, of Brandon.
Shank said he thinks a lot of his friends and neighbors were trying to find ways to help their community recover from the economic fallout of the pandemic response.

Also the time is right to install a heat pump unit that will save you money while keeping you COOL this month and WARM in February. Efficiency Vermont has a $400 rebate and Green Mountain Power has just upped their rebate to $800 for a total of $1200 off the cost!
Check out two of your fellow Chamber members who can install one for you with just a call.

Compass Music and Arts Center & Brandon Music
333 Jones Drive, Park Village   802-247-4295

We hope that you are all safe and well and thank you for doing all that you can to keep everyone safe and well.

We have some good news. We are now able to provide limited opening at  the Compass Center from Monday, May 18th but we have needed to make some important changes before then for your safety and welfare.
We are now trained in how to manage COVID-19 in a commercial gallery and retail setting to make sure that we do our part to keep you safe and well.

The changes
If you would like to come to visit us or shop with us we ask that for your safety you wear your face mask and that when you enter the Center you sanitize your hands. Hand sanitizer will be available for your use. We also ask that you do your very best to maintain the 6 feet social distancing requirements. Our building is so large this should not be difficult. We have marked the building with blue arrows to create a one way movement through the gallery and retail areas which should also help with social distancing.
We have also revised our opening hours and after the 18th will only be open Tuesday - Friday from 10am-4pm for public access.
Opening times will be kept under review as State guidelines change.  We all want to make sure that the return to normality comes as quickly and safely as possible.

We are looking forward to welcoming visitors and guessing who is behind the mask.
Take care and stay safe everyone.

This month we gave our donation to the Food Shelf and to the Senior Center to help feed our hungry neighbors. As the COVID threat continues there are still individuals and families in our community who are 'food insecure'. We want to do what we can to help feed our neighbors.
We hope to see you at the shop. Thank you for your patronage.

Swan & Stone Millinery

Here's what Swan&Stone Millinery is doing:
Our spring Art Shows have been cancelled (or postponed until late summer) so this spring we will be staying local, at home with our kids and in the studio.
We are a two-woman team and we each have our own studios, so our work habits are already "social distancing," and we have added lots of cleaning products, hand sanitizers and zero unplanned visits.
We continue to work on our spring and summer production--our full line of water resistant rain hats and our elegant straw sun and special occasion hats--and will focus our efforts on our website and local sales.  We will be running various specials online and our hours are "by appointment only," so that we can continue to accommodate custom orders and in-studio purchases.
Our phone number is 802-318-6853, website is www.swanandstone.com and on @Swan&Stone Millinery on Facebook and @swanandstone on Instagram.

We have gift certificates that can be snail mailed or emailed as well.

Computer EZ
Larry Gold

Computer-EZ in Mendon continues to be open regular hours, but customers are no longer allowed up the stairs to the shop with computers. They are asked to drop off and pick up computers downstairs. They can talk with the tech from downstairs or on their phone.

We are starting to schedule site visits, as the economy continues to open, with an eye towards being safe. We show up with masks and gloves and a disinfectant spray in my pocket, and look to be "socially distant" with users and employees on site. Emergency/urgent computer and network needs relating to personal use and business continuation will continue to be addressed immediately as usual. Protection of some sort should be in place on site with the employees or users wearing masks, and will be analyzed as need be.

We will also pick up and deliver computers as needed. Please continue to use phone & email to reach us in the office, if nobody is in the office, please leave a message and feel free to reach out to Larry directly on his mobile. 802-747-8094.

Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival
Updates and information on 2020 Festival

Greetings from MNFF!  We truly hope that this note finds you healthy, safe and coping well in these very challenging times.

For the last few months, since the COVID-19 pandemic descended on our country, our state, our community, we have been patiently watching developments and maintaining a cautiously optimistic position that a limited version of the 6th Annual Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival could be staged in late August.  And, indeed, the progress that the State of Vermont has made in combating the virus is remarkable, thanks in no small measure to the incredible sacrifices that the people of Vermont have made.  We remained hopeful.  But, in recent days, it has become clear to us that all the key elements we would need to present even a scaled back event will not come together this summer.  So, we write to you, as one of our most important supporters, to let you know, before the news breaks more widely, that the physical version of MNFF6 will not take place. There will not be a joyous gathering of filmmakers and festival goers on the streets and in the theaters this August in Middlebury and we are genuinely disappointed to convey this decision to you.
But there is definitely good news to share as well! We have begun working on an online version of the 6th Annual Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival to take place around the same late August dates of the physical Festival.  We are very excited about this new approach.  You can anticipate a robust collection of both feature films and shorts, documentaries and dramas, all from first and second time filmmakers, to be available for viewing.  You can look forward to interesting Q&As with filmmakers.  And, what's more, you can expect to engage with the Festival not on a tight day-by-day, film-by-film schedule but rather a flexible schedule that lets you watch a film whenever you'd like over the course of the event.

We will be releasing many more details about the 6th Annual Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival Online Edition in the weeks to come, including the exact dates and how to purchase Festival Passes.  We hope you will attend and enjoy.  As always, we welcome your continued support.  Feel free to spread the word and please consider making a donation to help us cover the cost of bringing MNFF6 to life online.  You can find us at https://middfilmfest.org/donate/.

Many, many thanks and take the very best of care,
Lloyd and Jay

Heritage Family Credit Union
AN UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT/CEO

All branch lobbies (except for the Hooksett, NH lobby) and drive-thrus will be open during regular operating hours. However, there will be mandated restrictions and changes to our daily procedures, in order to help keep members and staff safe. I'd like to take a moment to share what you can expect:

* Each branch will have a maximum number of people allowed in the lobby, which includes both staff and members. You will notice a sign on the entry indicating that location's capacity. Upon entering the branch, you will see floor stickers placed to keep you physically distant from others. Please do not enter a branch if there are no empty floor stickers available.

* All teller lines and offices have been fitted with plexiglass face shields. Our staff will all be wearing masks and we request that everyone wear a mask while in the branch for the protection of you and our staff. If you are uncomfortable wearing a mask for any reason, we ask that you plan to utilize the drive-thru for services.

* Unfortunately, we cannot allow for congregating in the lobbies. So, if you need to meet with one of my staff, it will be important for you to make an appointment and stay in your car until your appointment time. At the outset, we will have reduced staffing at most locations to assist us in physical distancing. This may increase wait times at the teller line or when meeting with a Financial Services Representative.

* We have increased the cleaning schedule in all of our buildings. Public spaces will be cleaned several times a day and frequently touched surfaces after every use. At this time, we are unable to offer coffee service, coin machines, lobby tech stations or public restrooms.

* As I've said numerous times, we strongly encourage you to utilize online services and e-sign any necessary documents, so you can take care of business from home! If you must visit a branch, we ask you to please limit the number of family members and refrain from bringing children, if possible.

*  Lastly, if you are experiencing any signs of illness or caring for someone who is sick, please stay home and do not enter our buildings. Also, if you've travelled out of state, ensure you've observed a self-quarantine of at least 14 days with no symptoms, before visiting a branch.

Thank you for your patience during these challenging times and thank you in advance for your assistance in following these guidelines as we open our lobbies to the general public. We are all experiencing a new normal and my staff and I are doing everything we can to get back to resume full operations. We continue to be here to serve you and your family's financial needs. If you have questions or if there is anything we can do to assist you, contact us at 888.252.8932 or visit us online at hfcuvt.com.

Health Care needs for protective masks
You can help to fill that need by sewing them!

Local hospitals, visiting nurse associations and manufacturing facilities need personal Protective masks.  You can help to fill that need by sewing them! Or by supplying elastic or ribbon to those who are sewing.

Here are some links to give you instructions, contact  and donation information
Our group of local people have been making masks for areas hospitals, VNA, Senior homes, etc.  We are calling ourselves "Sew Vermont Safe".   Faith Daya has been a tireless point person - getting and distributing elastic, collecting and delivering masks, etc. And making artwork out of masks!
Together, we have made per 2,500 since mid-March when the governor declared a state of emergency.  And we are still going strong!
If you would like to coordinate with others to make masks, have questions about construction or materials, or if you have elastic or tie the material that you would like to donate,  please contact Faith Daya
