NEPTA News and Events
April 2022
Dear friends,

Congratulations to all of our teachers and students who performed in many, many recitals this season! It has been inspiring watching our students and members return to live performance after so much time away. Our first in-person Speaker Series presenter, Fred Moyer, was fantastic. It was wonderful to see so many in attendance and also to hear from those of you who enjoyed watching the livestream in the comfort of your homes. Our livestreams have received over 3,000 views - clearly a signal that this is a feature we should continue to provide!

Our Teachers Exchange (Zoom) is coming up on April 11th. Watch your inbox for more information! Our competitions will take place this month at M. Steinert & Sons in Newton. Best of luck to all of the participating teachers and students!

Happy Spring,
Sivan Etedgee
President

A New Method of Practicing Piano: Switching Hands
By Lilit Karapetian-Shougarian
We all know that playing piano is a complex and stimulating process. It consists of constant multitasking and refined coordination between two hands. It requires an ability to focus for a long time, and it needs perfect control of metrorhythm. Pianists practice long hours to learn each of their pieces. Sometimes it can take so much time for students to learn a piece that they grow tired of it before performing it.

I have always tried to make the learning process shorter and more efficient for my students. I help them connect to the heartbeat, to the living rhythm of the pieces they play.
