Dear Residents -
For the most part, I try to keep the newsletter introduction lighthearted and informational. But having recently attended back-to-back services for two men who passed away unexpectedly and way before their time, one at 55 and the other at 57, I can’t help but feel the need to remind everyone just how short life can be. So, remember to treasure every moment you have with your loved ones and to tell them just how much you love them.
Now, back to our regular programing. Tomorrow, courtesy of the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce, the Easter Bunny will be driving around Pearl River. The Bunny and his escorts will be starting at 2:30 pm at the Franklin Avenue Elementary School parking lot and you can see the route they will be taking below.
Please see the Orangetown Police Department announcement below. Sadly, cases of mail being stolen from mailboxes and used to forge checks and steal identities is on the rise, even right here in Orangetown. Read the steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim, including taking any mail with sensitive information directly to the post office.
To all who celebrate, wishing you a Happy Easter and Passover. To all, hoping you have lots of quality time to enjoy with your family and friends this weekend!
Respectfully,
|

On Saturday, April 9, 2022, hundreds came together to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March.
The march was followed by a program replete with entertainment, honored speakers and dignitaries that was held at Dominican College. The Honorable Elmer Cato, the Consul General of the Philippines in NY, was the Keynote Speaker with special honors paid to the 31st Infantry Regiment and the Philippine Scouts.
Thank you, Jerome Kleiman, for organizing this important historic event.

ALWAYS drop your mail into the post office!

You shouldn't leave any mail in your mailbox overnight. Your mailbox is a major target for thieves and leaving mail in it overnight is likely to put you at high risk of theft, according to the experts at U.S. security company Allied Universal.
Certain mail with personal and confidential information, like blank checks, bank statements, insurance paper work, and credit applications, is even more risky to leave overnight. "If you get statements with personal information in the mail, take your mail out of the mailbox as soon as you can," the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns.
You may become a victim of identify theft if you have had your personal information stolen out of your mailbox. To spot identity theft, the FTC advises that you continuously track what bills you owe and when they're due, review your bills, check your bank account statement, and review your credit reports.
"Unfortunately, check fraud has been with us for probably as long as we've had checks, and we've definitely seen throughout the pandemic fraudsters of all types are really taking advantage," Mike Adelman, president and CEO of the Ohio Bankers League, told WBNS-TV. According to Adelman, it's become even easier for thieves to steal checks out of mailboxes and forge them amid COVID because they can deposit them through ATMs or using mobile phone apps without ever having to come face to face with an actual bank teller.
