Things to Watch For
Kindness Campaign:
Kind is Caring. Spread the Joy.

Join us as the Town of High River launches a Kindness Campaign for the 2020 Holiday Season! As residents have been navigating the ups and downs of the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing is for certain—we are all in this together and need to be able to lean on each other for support.

In the true spirit of the upcoming holidays, let’s remember to show extra patience and kindness to front-line service workers, customer service representatives, health care workers and all other employees that work directly with residents. As a community, we are stronger together so let’s spread kindness as we approach the holidays and joy will surely follow! More information will be found on highriver.ca in the coming weeks.
Province Declares State of Public Health Emergency - Mandatory Measures in Place
*This is an update to the original article published in the High River Times today. Due to publishing deadlines, we were unable to edit the paper version of the Town Crier.

On November 25th, the Province has declared a Public Health Emergency with new and expanded restrictions designed to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Under Public Health Order 38-2020, the Province has mandated that face masks are now required for all public spaces in the Calgary area. This includes all public buildings and workplaces in the Town of High River, including all Town facilities.

Face Masks are now required at all Town facilities. Town Hall remains open. The Bob Snodgrass Recreation Centre is open ONLY for people using the Walking Track - face masks are required. Please visit the Alberta website to read and follow these mandatory public health orders and read the Town's public service announcement for detailed information and more links.

We are in this together. In the spirit of the coming holiday season and during these challenging times, remember that small acts of kindness and compassion are ways we can care for our family, neighbours, friends and the High River community. Please follow Public Health Orders in place, recommended by health professionals to help prevent the spread during this Global Pandemic.

Is Your Home Carbon Monoxide Safe?
Are carbon monoxide (CO) alarms installed and maintained in your home?

Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas created when fuel burns incompletely and can come from appliances like furnaces and other equipment that has an engine such as a vehicle.

The only way to detect CO is with a working CO alarm. Check and test your detector monthly, and if it’s older than 5 years old, consider replacing it. If you or multiple people in your home are experiencing headache, nausea or dizziness, leave the home immediately and call 911 as this could be symptoms of CO poisoning.
Ice Safety
The High River Fire Department would like to remind residents to stay safe on ice as the winter weather begins to set in.

Many factors can affect ice thickness including heat and cooling cycles as well as fluctuating water levels. The best rule to follow is that no ice is safe ice and to stay off moving water bodies, such as rivers. The color of ice may be an indicator of it’s strength, with clear, blue ice being the strongest.

As the weather continues to warm and cool, pay close attention to ice thickness and be safe while enjoying winter activities around Town.
