February 2018
  This Just In...
Sorry, but some of us are, simply, hopeless romantics.

So, we've embraced February, the coldest, shortest, harshest days of the year to bring some warmth, affection and yes, love into your hearts. It is the month, after all, that brings us Valentine's Day.

We've paired particularly evocative photos with words from the most romantic dreamers we could find. Who knows, we may spur a new baby boom with this effort.

In any event, we promise to be more jaded, puritanically reserved and less hopeless next month, though there are sure to be a whole mess of flowers in next month's epistle.

Til then...tell someone you have feelings for them.

First Things First

pix by Robert Doisneau

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
-- William Shakespeare

A Kiss Before Parting

This 8-meter-tall steel sculpture by Georgian artist   Tamara Kvesitadze  is not only a stunning example of mechanics and design, but also a depiction of eternal love between nations.

The structure symbolizes the story of Ali and Nino, two lovers from different religious backgrounds. Every night at 7pm, the two figures begin changing positions, moving towards one another until they meet in a brief embrace, before passing through and continuing on their path.

At night their dance is lit up with colorful undulating lights, creating an emotional mood and a stirring sight in the seaside boulevard of Batumi, Georgia Originally designed in 2007 with the name   A Women and Man,   the sculpture was installed in 2010 and subsequently renamed   Ali and Nino , inspired by the novel written in 1937 by an Azerbaijani author using the pseudonym Kurban Said.

 It tells of a tragic love affair between a young Muslim Azerbaijani man and a Christian Georgian princess during the First World War. Theirs is a story of passionate love torn apart by culture, religion, and war, and has been hailed as one of the romantic novels of all time.

Last night, your memory stole into my heart-

as morning breezes reinvigorate dormant deserts,
as a patient suddenly feels better, for no apparent reason ...

How Warm Will 1/8 th  of a Tank Keep Me?

Suppose, just suppose, that Feb. 4 th is going to be 1 degree above zero?

What do you do? If you run down stairs to check the fuel gauge and find it is at 1/8 th of a tank, do you rush back up stairs and call Daniels with an urgent plea for an immediate delivery?

 No, of course not. But some people do. They panic.

So, here is a simple way to judge when to worry. If you use 800 gallons a year and have a 275 gallon tank that shows you only have an 1/8th of a tank remaining - that means you've got approx... 45-50 gallons in the tank.

If you are keeping a 2000 sq. ft. home at 70 degrees you will likely use approx. 6-7 gallons of fuel - each day - which means you have nearly a full week in the tank.

What we are saying is, don't panic. Daniels uses a sophisticated and comprehensive system to judge when to deliver based on temperature and your home's past usage.

Of course - you can always call us at 860 342 3778 - and sign up for Automatic Delivery (and get an instant $10 account credit*) and never worry, again.

*For current will call customers not already on automatic delivery. Credit has no cash value and customer must remain on automatic delivery for 12-mos.

 Hmmm. Well...

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

 ...It Should Be

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.

Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

(c'mon it's not every day that love is compared to an onion)
