Lower School News

Let me take this opportunity to remind you that we go out to recess every day except in rain or the temperature is below 20º. Snow does not deter us!! Please make sure your children have jackets, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots so they are prepared for any weather.

We are looking for light weight sleds. If you have any around the house that you do not want, please think about bringing them in for recess. There is a small hill in Alexander Park that is perfect for safe sledding.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
A wonderful annual tradition at Roycemore is Grandparents and Special Friends Day. This year, the event will take place on  November 26th , the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. We invite all Grandparents and Special Friends to join us for a Grandparents' Day celebration. The event will take place from 8:30-11am and will feature performances by the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School Choirs and Tumblers. Then the special friends and grandparents will go to the Lower School classrooms where they will do activities with their children. You are invited to the performance, but we ask only grandparents and special friends to go the the classrooms. .

What's Happening Around Lower School
1.Thank you to Sara Shacter for spending time with Roycemore's Lower School students. It was a great author visit and we all loved getting to meet her latest lovable character: Willow!

2. As part of our Leader in Me Program based on Steven Covey's Seven Habits,"Begin with the End in Mind" is about setting goals. The 3rd graders are working on setting different kinds of goals. They started with setting personal goals.

3. The 1st Graders completed their first research project with a state study. They worked with their reading buddies (7th Graders) learned about a state and completed a poster with lots of pictures and written information. They then presented their posters at a "State Expo."

4.Because our early childhood program is so enriched some of our children become early readers where they learn r eading strategies like “chunky monkey” and “floppy dolphin”.  Some are working on letter sounds with emphasis on the vowel sounds and putting letters in “letter jail” that don’t follow the rules we have learned. It’s all fun.  They love it!

PICTURES FROM THE WEEK!
Most of these are pictures from what you have read above.
