Hello PH Community,

Closing out our second week of Black History Month I want to share a quote from Frederick Douglas:
It’s easier to build strong children than it is to repair broken adults.”

This quote stands out for me as I consider that everyday here at Peter Hobart we are trying our best to build into our students a strong racial consciousness, knowledge, compassion, empathy and critical thinking. I believe that with these skills they will grow into adults who will be able to impact our world in the most positive ways. Thank you for all the ways you engage our students in this work.

We hope you all stay warm and enjoy the three day weekend,
Chris

We encourage you to check the school district website as new information is always posted there.

Peter Hobart - Lost and Found Items
We have a lot of winter gear in the lost and found! Please take a look and see if you recognize anything in these pictures. If you do, please remind your child to pick up their missing item. We want all of our kids to have their warm gear in this cold weather.
Upcoming Listening Sessions with Superintendent Osei
As a part of the process to hear stakeholder perspectives, Superintendent Osei will be hosting Listening Sessions over the course of this school year for students, parents/guardians, and staff to better understand the impact of the implementation of the District's educational delivery models.

COVID-19 Travel Warnings & Restrictions
With the President’s Day long weekend and spring break coming up March 27-April 4, the Human Resources Department is providing information to staff regarding travel. Travel that puts you and your family at risk is discouraged by the CDC and MDH. It is important and the responsibility of all staff to review and comply with the current state and federal travel regulations. If you travel outside the state or country for any reason, do what you can to protect yourself and your family.

The COVID-19 landscape is changing day-by-day and further travel restrictions or enforcement could be put in place if health conditions deteriorate. Last week, President Biden signed a new executive order requiring a negative COVID test within three days of travel to the U.S., and one week of quarantine after international travel. CDC Guidelines currently include this requirement: “all air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States.” Changes like this could make a return to the U.S. difficult, as you will need to find a health care provider in an unfamiliar place to give you a test and confirmation of the result.

With all that in mind, your presence at school is critical to ensure continued educational opportunities for our students. If a quarantine is necessary due to voluntary travel over these breaks, the district will consider each situation on a case-by-case basis to determine if the quarantine time will be paid or unpaid time off. A quarantine or illness following elective travel will not automatically qualify for the district’s voluntary COVID-Sick paid leave.

As a district, we will continue to monitor the state and federal guidance as we navigate the trajectory of the pandemic. We encourage you to also continue to monitor guidance regarding all travel plans. We all have a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19, let’s count on each other to keep our schools open and our community safe.
News from the Peter Hobart Health Office
How do I decide if my child should stay home from school?

The illness exclusion document that is sent home with sick students is found here. This document reflects exclusion guideline criteria from the MDH Decision Tree.

There is also a note at the bottom of the first page of the document regarding high levels of community transmission. Although the COVID rates have dropped significantly, we still have more than 10 cases per 10,000, which is considered a high level of community transmission. Individuals with just one "less common" symptom, follow pathway #1.

Please contact our Health Office at 952-928-6606 with any questions.

Food Resources
Every Meal (formerly The Sheridan Story)

Every Meal launched their Winter Meal Program, providing Minnesota children and families easier ways to get the food they need. Over 50 locations throughout the Twin Cities now have our meal bags available for free with no qualification requirements. Locations include local libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, faith communities, schools, businesses, and recreation centers. We hope these locations provide additional opportunities for your families to access Every Meal weekend food bags. These Meal bags are available to Peter Hobart families who pick up lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Check out the winter meal program map to find locations.

Urgent Action Needed: Free and Reduced Meals Application
Dear Families: You can help generate state aid for your St. Louis Park Public Schools by completing the Application for Educational Benefits.

Students in households that meet the free or reduced-price meal income guidelines will generate compensatory revenue for the district. Schools must use compensatory revenue to meet the needs of students who are behind their peers, such as remedial instruction, instructional materials including digital learning and technology, bilingual programs and additional teachers and teacher aides. However, the household must complete and return the forms, or complete the online form, no later than December 15 so the district can calculate eligibility and report to the Minnesota Department of Education. This will not impact your students’ eligibility to receive free meals during the 2020-21 school year because meals are free for all students this year.
