Coquitlam granted leave to appeal in Fortis dispute
  
The BC Court of Appeal has approved a City of Coquitlam application to appeal an order by the BC Utilities Commission that allowed Fortis to abandon a decommissioned gas pipeline running through City lands. The order had directed the City and Fortis to share the cost of removing the pipeline to allow for the installation of municipal infrastructure. UBCM provided an affidavit to the Court in support of Coquitlam that advanced the argument this was an application that could impact local governments across British Columbia. Read more

Electoral Area Directors' Forum registration
  
The Electoral Area Directors' Forum will be held virtually on February 2 (afternoon) and February 3 (morning), 2021. Registration is now open. Delegates who attend the Forum and also wish to attend the LGLA event on Feb 3 and 4 will receive a $25 discount on the LGLA registration. 

Short Term Rentals Toolkit
  
Generation Squeeze has developed a comprehensive toolkit to assist local governments in the design of effective short term rental regulations. The guide includes best practices, case studies, individual regulatory tools, a sample program and advocacy options. It is designed for a variety of community contexts and policy goals and includes a section on protecting housing availability and affordability.

Representative sought for Road Safety Committee
  
Nominations are being sought for one UBCM representative on the provincial Road Safety Strategy Committee. The Committee is a multi-stakeholder body tasked with overseeing and setting strategic direction on road safety priorities in British Columbia. Nominations will be accepted by UBCM until 4:30 p.m. on January 15, 2021.  Read more
