Bridge Program Students Learn About Podcasting

Every year students from the SMUHSD Bridge Program go on a podcasting field trip to 826 Valencia in San Francisco to work on their writing and speaking skills in English. This December, with help of volunteers, the students wrote poems about their identity and beliefs. Then, working with a professional actor, they recorded their poems as a podcast, adding digital sound effects and images.

Listen to their podcasts on Soundcloud.

Free Teen Heart Screening is February 23 at College of San Mateo

Green background with text that readsL Heart Screening with a drawing of a red heart Young people ages 12-25 are encouraged to attend this Free Heart Screening up at College of San Mateo on Sunday, February 23. Time slots are available from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

It is estimated 1 in 300 school-aged children suffer an undiagnosed heart defect, which can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death. A typical annual physical does not screen for advanced heart abnormalities. This does not take the place of your annual or pre-participation sports physical.

Screenings take 60-90 minutes (wait times may vary) and include a health history questionnaire review, an EKG test, and an echocardiogram. The entire process is non-invasive-no needles or x-ray exposure-and we ensure each teen's confidentiality, privacy and individual modesty is respected throughout all aspects of the screening.

Register your child in advance and bring their completed health history form and signed consent to the event. Please register and find forms at viaheartproject.org/screenings

Registration is open until noon on Friday, February 21, 2020 and is limited to 750 students.

Questions? Please call 800-284-0125 or email [email protected].
