UPDATE

MESSAGE FROM THE CAUCUS CHAIR:
Tricia Piechowski-Whitney, MPH, MSW, MA

Building off the momentum we built from the recent American Public Health Association (APHA) meeting in November in New Orleans, the Community-Based Public Health Caucus (CBPHC) is moving forward to develop and implement strategies to improve the health of our communities. As the new chair of the Caucus, I look to you - the experts - and urge you to work with us at finding ways to elevate community voice within APHA in partnership with public health practitioners and academics.

The Caucus is currently looking for a Chair-Elect. This two-year position is essential for the CBPHC in realizing our mission, vision, goals and objectives. If you are interested or know of others that might be interest, please email me at kwikwi@umich.edu

We have been busy developing new strategies in sustaining our work and bringing youth and community partners to 2015 APHA. Please take a moment to peruse the important caucus WORK GROUP UPDATES below.
SUSTAINABILITY
Our committee has been meeting to obtain funding to assist the CBPH Youth Council members in getting to the APHA Annual Meeting in November in Chicago. We are working with Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (our fiduciary) to set up an easy-to-use donation page highlighting the youth and their mentor/sponsor(s). More details about this in June!

We are working hard at identifying mechanisms and developing proposals to support the work of the Caucus. Join our efforts; contact one of the co-chairs: Barb Watson, bjwatson@umich.edu or Ella Greene-Moton, emgree@umich.edu

APHA PROGRAM PLANNERS:
We received 156 abstracts, and reviewers are submitting their reviews (due this Friday March 27). The next step is to tabulate the reviews and select abstracts for the program. APHA will notify authors and release the final program at the beginning of June.
COMMUNICATIONS
We are seeking articles for the June 2015 issue of the  CBPH Caucus Newsletter  for the  "NOTES FROM THE FIELD" section. You are invited to send an article of up to 250 words in length describing community and/or community-academic partnership work that is exciting and innovative in your community. Images corresponding with your article are also welcome. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the  Community Based Public Health (CBPH) Caucus Newsletter  by emailing Adam Paberzs, adampabe@med.umich.edu . The deadline for sending is
Monday, April 27, 2015.
P OLICY:
Each year, the Policy Work Group (PWG) facilitates the review of policies submitted
to APHA. We submit these reviews on behalf of the Caucus. This work helps to
advocate for our community partners nationally and bring our voice in APHA policy.
The Policy Work Group has identified 10 policies for review this year . We already have four people reviewing four of these policies. However, we are looking for additional volunteers from the caucus to review the policy statements below. If you are willing to  review a policy, please respond by March 30, 2015 to Lena  Hatchett, lhatchett@luc.edu. She will send you a "review form" to fill out and return.
