A MESSAGE FROM MR. LOWERY

Since Halloween occurs on a Saturday this year, and many of our kids will have fewer opportunities to celebrate and show off their costumes, we will be allowing students to celebrate with the staff on Friday, October 30th. That day students do have permission to wear costumes to their regularly scheduled classes and are invited to a Zoom-based celebration from 3 to 4 pm (see info above). We will still have regular learning that day so aspects of costumes that interfere with class participation or are disruptive may need to be put away for portions of the class. In order to make sure this is a safe and fun experience please use the following guidelines for school-appropriate costumes.

  • Costumes may not be demeaning to any ethnic group, race, religion, nationality, disabilities, gender (boys as girls and vice versa), or individual (staff or student) at the school.
  • Costumes may not cause a disruption or distraction to the school program, i.e. no revealing costumes (French maids, nightwear, bathing suits, etc.).
  • No weapons, toy weapons, or props replicating weapons.
  • Avoid costumes that would completely hide the identity of the student or interfere with learning, i.e. Hazmat suit, gorilla suit, "Scream" character. Appropriate masks and similar costumes may be allowed for a portion of the class but staff may request that masks or distracting elements be removed.
  • Costumes may not show obscene materials or prohibited substances.

If you have any questions about these guidelines or the celebration please contact me by email.

Happy Halloween!
Craig Lowery
Head of School
