Dear Sopris Families,
Lots of excitement is building at Sopris this time of year! We had a wonderful kick-off to "I love to Read Month" with our Literacy / Fine Arts Night last week. We so appreciate the large amount participation by Sopris families. We had over 285 people here for the event and enjoyed seeing all the great student writing and artwork, as well as listening to our visiting author/illustrator, Janet Stevens. Her presentations through the day were such an inspiration to our students! We also thank our sponsoring partners PTA, Holy Cross Energy, and Alpine Bank for helping make Literacy a fun focal point here at Sopris. Please check our calendar for ongoing literacy events like character dress up days, classroom reading challenges, a book give away, and a culminating literacy root beer float party to help increase our time spent reading and help celebrate reading. We thank you and encourage you in your efforts to making reading a focal point in your home!
We also want to remind you of other important February events, such as: parent/teacher conferences Feb. 12th and 14th, Valentines Parties Thursday, Feb. 13th, Presidents' Day holiday Feb. 17th, and our PTA sponsored "Festival of Cultures" event on Friday, Feb. 21st with great international food and fun for the whole family. If you want to create and share a food dish highlighting your family heritage, please let Betty Martinez in the front office know.
Lastly, we encourage you to complete our yearly family survey that provides valuable information to inform our ongoing improvement planning here at Sopris. This is available electronically (you will get an email) and we will have computers set up during parent / teacher conferences as well.
