At the beginning of this school year, a family offered the possibility of forming a partnership with University of North Florida (UNF) music students and Morning Star School. Excited about this opportunity for our students, Mrs. Militante, our music teacher, began collaborating with UNF faculty and staff about the Music Mentoring program at UNF.
The idea behind Music Mentors is that college students studying music would share their talents with grade school and high school students. MSS students would have the opportunity to be exposed to music and instruments in addition to their music class. The college students also gain experience teaching music and working with students in the classroom. We are still in the ‘building phase’ of this program, but we are excited to see how it will transform into a reality for our students.
All of our students were treated to a concert today by UNF’s Percussion Ensemble. The talent of the students was amazing, but even more amazing was the way they connected with and engaged our students.
We are very grateful to Dr. Randy Tinnin, Professor of Trumpet at UNF, and Mrs. Militante for the work they have already done and will continue to do to bring Music Mentors to Morning Star School.
Trusting in His care,
