Returns in Outside Box Please!

Even as we offer foyer pick-up we request that your returns continue to be made to the outside drop box only.  We can't accept returns any other way due to our quarantine processing procedure. You can make returns any time during our physical operating hours Mon-Fri 10-5:30 or Sat. 10-2:30

Once again, everything we get back needs to be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours.  So don't be concerned if items stay on your library account for a few days before we physically check them in and get them circulating.

Rye Public Library Extends Foyer Pick-up Hours for Requested Materials!

Starting Tuesday June 23nd Rye Public Library will  offering extend the hours for foyer pick up of requested books and other library materials.  After your receive your confirmation number, feel free to pick up your materials between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:30PM Mon-Fri and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Just reserve your materials, receive confirmation, then arrive for a no-touch pick up!

We have to ask that all requests be limited to 5 items per library card at this time. We are operating with a limited crew in alternating pods in observance of the safest practices for you and our staff.  We also request your continued patience as required quarantine periods will impact the turn-around time for requested materials.

As always, we will monitor all our contact points during our normal open hours.  Mon. 9-5, Tues. Wed. Thurs. 9-8, Friday 9-5 and Sat. 9-3.

Making Requests

You are welcome to  make materials requests by phone,
e-mail or through the Library catalog on Monday June 8th.  Just call us at 603-964-8401, send a request by e-mail, or log in to your account in our catalog and place a hold as always.  We will prepare your order, check it out to you, and mark it with a date and number.  Next, we'll call you to provide your pick-up number, and then you'll have three business days to pick up [Sundays are excluded from the count].

Delivery to your car during one of our pick-up times can be arranged when we call you with your order confirmation.

Requests will have to be from the Rye Public Library collection only.  Statewide inter-library loan service remains suspended at this time.   Remember, our electronic services remain available to greatly expand our print collection!

Pick-Ups

Starting on Tuesday June 22nd foyer pick-up hours will be extended to Mon-Fri from 10:00AM to 5:30PM, and on Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:30pm.

Staff are available during pick-up times to answer questions and monitor the procedure. Call the Library at 964-8401 or ring our outside doorbell if we don't see you in the foyer.  We do ask that you work with us to keep everyone safe during pick-ups:
  •  Please maintain six foot separation from others.
  • We ask that you wear a face covering during your transaction. [masks, gloves and sanitizer will be available]
  • Please proceed 1 at a time within the foyer.
Our foyer will be open with numerically sequenced tables. Just match your number to the numbered bundles and carry out your order.   Everything will be checked out to you already for our normal circulation period, and a dated receipt will be included in your bundle.

Why numbers?  Public libraries in New Hampshire are required to protect your privacy.  Numbers allow the public facing bundles to remain anonymous.  By maintaining a one-at-a-time flow through the foyer, your privacy will be upheld in this process.

Remote Browsing

We know many of you have long book lists already, but also realize there is a unique serendipity in browsing for a library selection.  Until our next phase of operations and added access to the building, here are some great resources for finding new books:
As always, your friendly library staff is ready to recommend a great book too!  Just call or e-mail for reader advisory services!

Safety Considerations

Our first concern in this and any of the forthcoming phases of operation we've planned is for the safety of the community and our staff.

In order to maximize safe procedure please observe the following practices. Once again:
  • During pick-ups please maintain six foot separation from others.
  • We ask that you wear a face covering during your transaction.  [masks, gloves and sanitizer will be available]
  • Please proceed 1 at a time within the foyer.
The following protocols will be in place during operation:
  • Library staff conduct a daily illness check upon reporting to work.
  • Hourly disinfection of public high-touch surfaces and extensive regular disinfection of staff work stations is in effect.
  • Staff utilize face coverings and appropriate workplace distancing, and handle public materials with gloves.
  • All returned library materials are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before processing for re-circulation.

Please make a personal consideration of health recommendations before borrowing library materials.  We have followed all available guidelines in preparing for the foyer service phase, but sadly, no one can make absolute  guarantees of your safety in interacting outside your home.  We request that, as  with any venture in public, you follow personal and community protective measures, and if you have been experiencing fever or any respiratory symptoms, please avoid going into the public.  We look forward to seeing and serving you safely in the near future!

With Best Wishes,
Andy Richmond
