Legislative Session Highlights (February)

We have officially passed the halfway point of this regular “short” session! Of the more than 4,600 bills on the docket (including those automatically reintroduced from last session), fewer than 600 remain "alive" after Wednesday's House of Origin cut-off deadline.

Graduation Pathway Options Feedback

New graduation requirements have sparked important conversations since rules were adopted in November. SBE hosted it’s third forum on new graduation pathway options for students (required for the Class of 2020 and beyond) in Tumwater this past month. Find out more about what SBE learned in the Olympia-area on the SBE blog .

If you are interested in giving your view on graduation pathway options, please take the online survey . It will be open until March 8.
Student Leaders Seek Eastern WA Representative for State Board

Each year the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) selects a sophomore student to serve through their senior year on the AWSL Student Voice & Advocacy Board who will also represent Washington students on the State Board of Education (SBE).

This year, we are seeking a passionate sophomore and student leader to represent Eastern Washington at a state-level!

Applications sent by March 9 will be accepted. Learn more on the SBE blog .
Mastery-based Learning Work Group Webinar Series

The legislatively-mandated Mastery-based Learning Work Group has hosted a series of webinars this month exploring ways master-based learning (also known as competency-based learning) models are working in higher education.

You can find links to the video recordings of both webinars, and information about the Mastery-based Learning Work Group's recently submitted report to the Legislature on the SBE website .
