2020 Online Summer Reading
Programs Start Saturday!
The "Imagine Your Story" virtual summer reading programs kick off online, starting this Saturday, June 20, and running through Thursday, August 13, 2020.
There are programs for everyone, including children, teens and adults. Prizes for reading and participating in a variety of online and at-home activities will be awarded for all ages. New this year is the Beanstack Tracker mobile app where you can participate right from your mobile device. We've also added the ability to create accounts for the entire family, making it easier than ever to join in the fun.
The free Beanstack app can be downloaded from your device's app store for both iOS and Android operating systems. Please note that the app does not currently allow you to post picture reviews or upload activity photos -- you'll need to do that through the
Beanstack website.
For patrons without access to the internet at home, or for those looking for a screen-free activity, you can request a packet of print materials from the Library. Please contact Amanda Meyer, Children's Librarian, at 508/946-2470.

Curbside Pickup
We're currently
offering curbside pickup by appointment only.
Only materials owned by the Middleborough Public Library will be available for curbside pickup. Materials from other libraries will not be available at this time.
Place holds for items you'd like to request by logging into your
SAILS account and searching the catalog, remembering materials must be available in the Middleborough Library. You also may phone or email us your requests at 508/946-2470 ext. 1 or
midlib@sailsinc.org.
Once your items are ready, you will be called to schedule your pickup. Curbside hours have been extended on the weekdays. Pickup will be available Monday - Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as staffing allows.

It's a chance for all library card holders to
read the same digital title at the same time without any wait lists or holds. It's like a worldwide digital version of a local book club.

Tech with Tiny Tots on Thursdays
-- June 18 will be the last Tiny Tots Support group until the summer session. All families with babies and/or toddlers are welcome to attend. Enjoy a few stories, songs, rhymes, and time to socialize. Please register.
Friday Fun with Miss Lori's puzzle/challenges -- Join Miss Lori this week, starting June 19, for Summertime Fun Fridays by solving this Brain Quest "All About Books" puzzle. Print out the puzzle, solve it, and post a picture of it in the comments section of our Facebook page. You also can email Miss Lori who will share it for you.
Sat., June 20 -- Summer Reading begins! Kids have the chance to win one of five

1. Book Bundles:
In need of some new reading material? Order a book bundle from the Children's Room. You can request a topic or pick from one of ours: animals, transportation, award winners, fairy tales, sports, science, survival stories, and more! If you're not picky try the "Librarian's choice" and get a selection of some of our favorite titles. We will hand pick five to eight books based on age, grade or reading level. You can use the library's curbside service to make an appointment and pick them up. Call 508/946-2470 to request yours today.

Read what you want and log your time using Beanstack, our new online reading platform. Each time you reach a reading milestone, you'll earn a virtual badge to cheer you on, plus virtual raffle tickets towards eight raffle prizes.
The more you read, the more tickets you earn (the higher reading levels give you more tickets, too). Readers who log 20 or more hours will be automatically entered into the Amazon Reading Raffle for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card.
Want more ways to receive tickets and get ahead of the competition? Complete themed activities that will test your mental, physical, and creative skills to earn yourself an activity badge. Badges range from cooking, photography, and writing to virtual escape rooms, outdoor adventure, and BINGO. There's something for everyone!

When describing our curbside pickup service, you may have noticed we mention that we currently can only provide you with items from our library, as material sharing between libraries hasn't resumed yet. (See curbside delivery article above.)
Do you know how to find those Middleboro items when you search for something in our catalog? Starting at the SAILS website
, you can click on the box that says "Everything" near the little house button in the grey bar across the top of the page. Just choose "Search Middleboro Titles" from the drop-down box, and you're all set.
You also can do this on the mobile app by using the "Search by Library" feature on the second screen of the app (swipe left to get there).

Spotlight on a Local Hero --
Josh Kantor, Organist for
the Boston Red Sox
What do you do when Major League Baseball has closed every ball field in America, including your beloved Fenway, and it's your job to make music and entertain the fans?
Josh Kantor, organist for the Boston Red Sox since 2003, has found a way to connect with fans and give something back. Since the stay-at-home order started, he's been offering a live-streamed daily concert on Facebook. Every afternoon at 3:00 p.m., you can go to his Facebook page, the 7th-Inning Stretch, and listen to Josh play baseball-themed favorites and a huge range of other genres. He even takes requests, just like at the ballpark. Submit them in the comments section of his page.
Josh and his wife, Mary, who is a minister, decided to ask people enjoying the show to make a donation to their local food bank. Middleborough residents can donate to the St. Vincent de Paul location, or for other towns, go to FeedingAmerica.org.

SAILS has got you covered. You can register online for a temporary card that will work for two months. Click

to register for a temporary card. Once we open, you'll have to come visit to get a permanent card, but this will allow you to access all we have to offer in the meantime.
