It's 2020 and it will be a little while yet before the Ohio General Assembly gears back up
(first session returns on January 22
nd
); then it will be full bore until early March when everyone will take a two-week "Spring Break" (read: primary election), then back in early April until early June, then out again, likely until after the November general election. This means there are only a few weeks in reality to get Pro-Life bills moving along or over the finish line before the election year becomes the major focus. Keep in close contact with your members of the Assembly, and let them know that keeping focused on Protecting Life and Family is Job #1!

There are lies, pernicious lies, and statistics:
Abortion advocates have been touting the "devastating" results of a California-based research project which is purported to show the Abortion Pill Reversal procedure being dangerous to women. Now that the data has been more clos

examined
, it actually shows two things: 1. The research project was tainted and 2. Progesterone actually may have a protective effect on the women (as well as the unborn child being attacked with mifepristone). Senate Bill 155 should be getting hearings in the House when they reconvene at the end of the month. Now that this bogus study has been debunked, wonder what non-scientific arguments pro-aborts will use next?

Hooray for Hollywood....not
: Notably pregnant actress Michelle Williams took her moment in the spotlight at the Golden Globe awards to make a
speech
about how if it wasn't for "the right to choose" (i.e. abortion on demand) then she, and by extension every other woman on the planet, wouldn't be able to be successful. That's right, in order to obtain the golden statuette (and it's more attractive cousin the Oscar), it's fine and right to spill the blood of an unborn baby. Thank you, Michelle Williams, for making that as plain as day, the golden idol demands child sacrifice.

In case you missed it
- The community of Whitehall, Texas, may have the youngest
mayor
in the country...well, honorary mayor that is: seven month old Charlie McMillan isn't old enough to vote, but he is plenty old enough to spread the message "Make America Kind Again" as the honorary Mayor of Whitehall. Charlie "ran" on a platform of patriotism, adoption (he is with his forever family after his birth mother gave him up for adoption), and life. Perhaps our adult politicians can learn a thing or two from this seven-month-old public servant!

Principles run deep
. Much attention has been given to Congressman Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, the House member who left the Democratic Party and switched to Republican over the impeachment of President Trump. Now, the newest member of the GOP House Caucus has shown another reason for his separation from the party of Pelosi. Van Drew just became the 204
th
member of Congress to sign a "discharge petition" that would bypass Speaker Pelosi's block of, and bring up for an immediate vote, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors' Act, to protect babies born after botched abortions from being killed or left to die without care. Pelosi has blocked this legislation from a vote 80 times this session. Van Drew's addition brings floor managers one signature closer to the 218 necessary for the discharge to take effect. Please drop your Congressman a note thanking them for signing the petition, or encouraging them to do so if they haven't yet.

United States Supreme Court- Elena Kagan, Associate Justice.
Justice Kagan was born in New York, New York, on April 28, 1960. She received an A.B. from Princeton in 1981, an M.Phil. from Oxford in 1983, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1986. After briefly practicing law at a Washington, D.C. law firm, she became a law professor, first at the University of Chicago Law School and later at Harvard Law School. She also served for four years in the Clinton Administration, as Associate Counsel to the President and then as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy. Between 2003 and 2009, she served as the Dean of Harvard Law School. In 2009, President Obama nominated her as the Solicitor General of the United States. A year later, the President nominated her as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on May 10, 2010. She took her seat on August 7, 2010. Kagan has consistently voted with the liberal wing of the Court, and is assigned oversight of cases arising from the 9
th
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, arguably the most liberal circuit in the country.
U.S. Congress-Marcy Kaptur.
The Democrat member of the U.S. Congress from Ohio's 9
th
District has been in office since 1983. In the 36 years Kaptur has served, she has authored five bills which have been voted into law. Kaptur serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, where she chairs the subcommittee on Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies. She is also a member of the subcommittees Commerce, Justice, Science & Related Agencies and the Defense subcommittee. Kaptur has a consistent liberal voting record, receiving a 100% score from the pro-homosexual Human Rights Campaign, a 93% rating from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and a 79% rating from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Kaptur will be standing for re-election in 2020.
Ohio State Board of Education District 6-Dr. Antoinette Miranda

A university professor and Director of the School Psychology Program at The Ohio State University, Miranda has spent over 35 years in education, both K-12 and post-secondary. She has worked as a school psychologist in urban, suburban and rural districts in New York City, Ohio and Kentucky. Dr. Miranda earned a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. She serves as chair of the Board's Continuous Improvement Committee. Miranda was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2016 and is eligible for re-election November 2020.
Ohio House Energy and Natural Resources Committee
-This House Committee deals with one of the key aspects of Ohio's economic and jobs engine and chaired by Urbana's Rep. Nino Vitale. The committee has 13 members, eight Republicans and five Democrats. The committee is responsible for issues from mining and mineral rights to auto emissions testing and nuclear energy. The committee meets on Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m.
Ohio Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee
-This panel, Chaired by Sen. Bill Coley of Butler County, is one of the busiest in the Senate. Comprised of eight Republican members and three Democrat members, this committee has been referred over 40 bills this session. They review issues ranging from theft in office to domestic violence, from Second Amendment issues to Elections issues. The committee meets on Tuesdays at 3:15 p.m.
Personal Note
I want to thank each of you for the kind words, prayers, and well-wishes that have been shared with me and my family during my recent medical situation. The surgery in December went well, and confirmed that I am indeed now among those who can say they are a cancer survivor. There will be more exams, scans, and other activities I will have to do to ensure that I am now and will remain cancer-free, but God's blessing has been on this from day one and He never falls short. I apologize for being away so long from this update, as I had hoped to be back to full speed in mid-December! Oh well, as the Bard has said, the best laid plans of mice and men...
