The front page story of
The New York Times
on February 3rd outlines how CAMBA Legal Services Attorney (CLS) Claunick “Nick” Duronville scored a major Housing Court victory a few weeks ago for his client who is a home health aide, Elinora De La O. Because of Nick’s dogged persistence in making the case that Elinora had become like family to her client, even working without pay after moving in, he was able to secure for her the right to remain in the client's rent controlled apartment in Bay Ridge at $283 a month. This victory comes about because the client was referred to CLS as a part of
NYC’s Right To Counsel initiative
.

Rogosin Institute, steadfast in helping CAMBA transform the services we provide, has donated Mac computers to the Howard Cornerstone Community Center, the
fourth
CAMBA site to receive computers from Rogosin. There was a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony January 30 to unveil the CAMBA-Rogosin Institute Computer Lab that included Barry Smith, M.D., President & CEO of the Rogosin Institute, Daniel Levine, Rogosin’s Chief Information Officer, Thresia Harris of NYC’s Department of Youth and Community Development, and Council Member Alicka Amprey-Samuel.
The Computer Lab will help young people and their families build critical computer skills to compete successfully in our highly technical world. Other sites receiving this extraordinary gift from Rogosin include the Flagstone and Kensington Family Shelters and the Cypress Hills Cornerstone Community Center.

west elm
, the Brooklyn-based furniture and lifestyle store, continued its generous contributions to CAMBA by beautifying all nine of our Cornerstone Community Centers. About 60 west elm staffers volunteered on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to paint the Pink Cornerstone Community Center and the Stuyvesant Gardens Cornerstone Community Center. Two sites have been completed so far: the Albany and Brevoort Cornerstone Community Centers. Brevoort will have its formal unveiling on February 12.

CAMBA has been selected as an awardee of the New York City Complete Count Fund (CCF), New York City’s unprecedented $19 million investment in census-related education, outreach, and organizing efforts. The CCF represents the largest investment of its kind by any city nationwide.
CAMBA
was selected to receive an award in a competition that included nearly 500 applicants from across the city. CUNY and the City of New York will partner with CAMBA in mobilizing the residents of New York City to self-respond to the 2020 Census. We're proud that our reward reflects confidence in CAMBA as "a
trusted messenger in the communities that [we] serve."

This glorious mural now greets clients at The Gathering Place, CAMBA's
Drop-In Center serving homeless adults by providing a safe, sanitary and stable alternative to the streets. Volunteers from
Repair the World
,
a Jewish non-profit deeply committed to helping improve communities, spent Martin Luther King weekend completing the mural, as drawn by noted Crown Heights artist
Rusty Zimmerman
. The mural depicts King's image, a circle of multi-colored hands over a row of brownstones with the inspiring words, "If you can believe, then you can achieve."
